For a tech mogul, Jeff Bezos is a little particular when it comes to his phone use, according to his fianc\u00e9e Lauren S\u00e1nchez.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The second richest man on the planet apparently has a rule against the couple using their phones in the morning, his partner told People<\/em><\/a>, preferring that they instead spend some quality time talking.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI love waking up. I make myself a cup of coffee. I make Jeff a cup of coffee, and we kind of have this magic moment where it\u2019s just us talking,\u201d she said. \u201cThe kids haven\u2019t woken up yet. And we don\u2019t get on our phones. That\u2019s one of the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n Former TV show host S\u00e1nchez has three kids from previous marriages. She and Bezos went public with their relationship in 2019, shortly after Bezos\u2019 divorce from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott<\/a>. Bezos and S\u00e1nchez got engaged in 2023 when they were on vacation in the south of France, People<\/em> previously reported. The two reportedly celebrated their engagement aboard Bezos\u2019s $500 million superyacht<\/a> named \u201cKoru,\u201d which features a wooden figurehead statue of a woman that resembles S\u00e1nchez.<\/p>\n Although S\u00e1nchez admits that if it weren\u2019t for the Amazon<\/a> founder, the helicopter pilot would kick off the day with her phone in hand. Still, the proviso has its perks, she added.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cHe definitely made that rule,\u201d she said with a laugh. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t me. But the mornings are just us for as long as we can.\u201d<\/p>\n Sitting and talking with Bezos in the morning without the interference of screens\u2014at least until they\u2019ve had their morning cup of joe\u2014makes all the difference, S\u00e1nchez said.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cMy favorite part of the day is the morning,\u201d Sanchez told the outlet.\u00a0<\/p>\n He\u2019s one of the most powerful men on Earth, but Bezos isn\u2019t one to \u201crise and grind.\u201d The billionaire has said previously that he sets his first meeting for 10 a.m. and makes sure that he is caffeinated and\u00a0 has read the newspaper (he does own the Washington Post<\/em> after all).\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cMy kind of puttering time is very important to me,\u201d Bezos said in a 2018 speech<\/a> at the Economic Club of Washington.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Amazon founder, while wildly successful thanks to in part his self-discipline, is also known for his idiosyncrasies.\u00a0<\/p>\n In a 2014 interview, e-commerce company Woot founder Matt Rutledge recalled he and Bezos sitting down for some breakfast octopus at a Seattle restaurant. Somehow, Bezos used the curious high-protein, low-fat breakfast seafood as a metaphor<\/a> for why Amazon was acquiring Woot for $110 million.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re the octopus that I\u2019m having for breakfast \u2026 When I look at the menu, you\u2019re the thing I don\u2019t understand, the thing I\u2019ve never had.
