Bachelorette<\/em>\u00a0Jenn Tran<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s runner-up, Marcus Shoberg<\/a><\/strong>, has opened up about his emotions following the reality show\u2019s finale. The 32-year-old took to Instagram to reveal that he has \u201cbeen through hell and back.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the Army Ranger veteran\u2019s journey did not end in a fairy tale with the season 21 Bachelorette, Jenn\u2019s search for love also did not go as planned. From her proposal to Devin Strader<\/a><\/strong> to their engagement being called off over the phone, both men have faced significant criticism on social media for their actions on the show.<\/p>\n

In the wake of the controversial finale and his reluctance to use the word \u2018love\u2019 during the show, Marcus addressed Bachelor Nation in a post on Wednesday, September 4. He wrote<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019ve been honest with my emotions \u2013 on @bacheloretteabc and in life \u2013 because I believe that being open is the only way to truly live. l\u2019ve shed tears over the past, over love, and over the trials that have shaped me. But those tears don\u2019t make me weak; they make me human. They are proof that I\u2019m still here, with a heart that refuses to be hardened by the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

This statement came after he initially said,\u00a0\u201cVulnerability is not a weakness; it\u2019s a strength. It\u2019s the courage to stand in front of the world and say, \u2018This is who I am, scars and all!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Marcus went on to admit<\/a> that he has \u201cbeen on that [healing] journey for years,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0revealing that therapy and faith have guided him through his difficulties. While continuing to share his deepest feelings, he concluded,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m not perfect; I don\u2019t have all the answers, but I do know this: the hardest moments in life often become the most transformative.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

His co-star on the show, Jonathan Johnson<\/strong><\/a>, supported him in the comments, describing Marcus as \u201cone of the greatest men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.\u201d<\/span> He added,\u00a0\u201cThe words that people have passed around with no validity, just hear-say has beaten me up to no end. You\u2019re an incredible man and I hope everyone who has ever doubted that, gets a chance to know the real you like I have.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
