How long has it been since the Twilight<\/em> movies came out? A while. You better buckle up because Twilight<\/em><\/a> is about to get the revamp treatment. A Twilight<\/em> TV series based on Stephenie Meyer\u2019s<\/strong> bestselling book series is in the works.<\/p>\n

The first Twilight<\/em> book was released in 2005 and spawned three sequels. The Twilight<\/em> book series has sold over 160 million copies worldwide. While we\u2019re nearing 20 years since the first book\u2019s release, the love for Twilight<\/em> hasn\u2019t dimmed.<\/p>\n

You probably have a lot<\/em> of questions about the upcoming Twilight<\/em> animated series. Twihards, have no fear. Hollywood Life<\/strong> has rounded up everything we know so far about the series, any news of a spinoff, and more.<\/p>\n

Twilight<\/em> Animated TV Series in Development<\/h2>\n

A Twilight<\/em> TV series was in \u201cearly development\u201d via Lionsgate Television in 2023, sources told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0The book series was first adapted in 2008 with Twilight<\/em>, starring Kristen Stewart<\/strong><\/a> as Bella Swan, Robert Pattinson<\/strong><\/a> as Edward Cullen, and Taylor Lautner<\/strong><\/a> as Jacob Black. The movie became a massive hit \u2014 earning over $407 million at the box office \u2014 and catapulted the cast to superstardom. The success of Twilight<\/em> led to The Twilight Saga<\/em>, which included five movies in total with Breaking Dawn<\/em> being split into two parts.<\/p>\n

In September 2024, the show was confirmed to be an animated series. Per Variety<\/em><\/a>, the show will be based on Stephanie\u2019s 2020 book, Midnight Sun<\/em>, which tells the story of Twilight<\/em> from Edward\u2019s perspective. The outlet further reported that Stephanie is serving as an executive producer on the series, and Lionsgate TV will produce it.<\/p>\n

Sinead Daly<\/strong> will write the script. According to THR<\/em>, Sinead was working with Lionsgate TV to \u201cdetermine what the specific take on Twilight<\/em> will be and if it will be a remake of Meyer\u2019s books or a different offshoot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Where Can You Watch The Twilight<\/em> Animated Series?<\/h2>\n

The animated show was given a straight-to-series order by Netflix. So, viewers can expect to watch the show on the streaming platform when it is released.<\/p>\n

Will The Original Cast Return?<\/h2>\n

Since the series will be animated, the roles of Bella, Edward, Jacob, and more will most likely be played by new actors. The latest report didn\u2019t make any mention of casting news.<\/p>\n

Back in 2018, Robert Pattinson<\/strong> addressed the possibility of playing Edward again. \u201cI\u2019ve literally talked to my agent about it.\u00a0The amount of time I spend moisturizing \u2014 I am ready to play 17 at a moment\u2019s notice. I\u2019ve got the botox out,\u201d he joked to Variety<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Taylor Lautner<\/strong> admitted that he wouldn\u2019t be opposed to returning<\/a> to the role of Jacob Black. \u201cHe\u2019s a good character that is easy to love, so I would never say no to that,\u201d he told E! News<\/em><\/a> in 2022. \u201cBecause it\u2019s Jacob Black. He\u2019s a lovable guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor also revealed where he thinks Jacob would be 10 years after the final film in The Twilight Saga<\/em>.\u00a0 \u201cHappy ever after with Renesmee because that\u2019s where I left off,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd yeah, he\u2019s a pretty loyal dude.\u201d<\/p>\n

Is There A Twilight<\/em> Spinoff?<\/h2>\n

Catherine Hardwicke<\/strong>, who directed the first Twilight<\/em> film, spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Hollywood Life<\/strong> about a Midnight Sun<\/em> movie<\/a>. \u201cI think it could be great. It was kind of fun because when we started on Twilight<\/em> she had written the first five chapters of it,\u201d Catherine said in 2020. \u201cSo she told Robert [Pattinson] and I about it and said, \u2018Would you guys want to read it? Because maybe it\u2019ll help Rob as he develops his character.\u2019 We got to read those five chapters, which, of course, ended up being leaked. So everybody got to read that. I think it\u2019s fascinating when you\u2019re seeing it from a whole different perspective. I think that\u2019s fun. It would be so cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

That same year, the author also revealed she was working on two more Twilight<\/em> novels. \u201cThere are two more books I think in the world that I want to write,\u201d she told USA Today<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it\u2019s there. I am not ready to do that right now, I want to do something brand new,\u201d she said. \u201cFor me, a lot of the joy of writing comes from creating and I really want to do a new world and new rules and new mythology. Mythology is kind of my thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
