Everything is just as it seems now that Wizards of Waverly Place<\/i><\/a> got a sequel series! The hit Disney Channel sitcom made such a magical impact on viewers, that it is now getting the reboot treatment during this ongoing era of sequels, prequels and re-quels! The plot of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place<\/em> focuses on one major character\u2019s human life away from the wizard world alongside a brand-new cast. And fans have one huge character to look forward to seeing in the pilot episode: Selena Gomez<\/b><\/a>\u2019s Alex Russo!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On January 26, 2024, David DeLuise<\/strong>\u00a0and David Henrie<\/strong>, who played father and son on the series, took to Instagram to share a group photo with Selena and fellow costar Maria Canals-Barrera<\/strong>. \u201cThe Russos\u00a0\u2764\ufe0f<\/span>coming back,\u201d they captioned it, hinting that the snapshot was taken recently.\u00a0Jake T. Austin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>also recently reposted his former co-stars\u2019 posts to his Instagram Story, hinting that he may make an appearance.<\/p>\n

Just a few days before that, Selena and some of her costars were seen in the first apparent behind-the-scenes photos<\/a> from the set of the sequel. They all gathered together and posed while looking as happy as could be.<\/p>\n

\u2018Wizards Beyond Waverly Place\u2019 Cast<\/h2>\n

Selena is appearing in the show\u2019s pilot episode. However, it is not currently known whether she will return as Alex Russo in the subsequent episodes. The Hulu actress\u2019 TV brother, David Henrie<\/a><\/strong>, is reprising his role as Justin Russo as a series regular. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New faces are all part of the cast, including Janice LeAnn Brown<\/b>, Alkaio Thiele<\/b> and Mimi Gianopulos<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The original series starred Jake T. Austin as Max, David DeLuise<\/strong><\/a> as Jerry, \u00a0Jennifer Stone<\/strong><\/a> as Harper and Maria Canals-Barrera<\/strong> as Theresa. Other stars included Gregg Sulkin<\/strong> as Alex\u2019s boyfriend, Mason, and Bridgit Mendler<\/strong> as Justin\u2019s girlfriend, Juliet.<\/p>\n

In response to a social media comment, David reassured fans that he and the rest of the OGs are planning on coming back for the new series. \u201cWe definitely plan on bringing back the original cast for the series order,\u201d David commented<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What Will the \u2018Wizards of Waverly Place\u2019 Sequel Be About?<\/h2>\n

Per the outlet, the new series will show Justin living a normal life away from the Wizard World. Following a mysterious incident at WizardTech, a powerful young wizard named Billie needs training and seeks Justin\u2019s help. However, the now-adult Justin is living life as a human with his wife and kids. Now, he has to revisit his past in order to help the new wizard learn the ropes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel\u00a0<\/strong>asked Selena about the \u201creboot\u201d in a February 2024 interview<\/a>, she explained that he wasn\u2019t using the right terminology for the show. \u201cIt\u2019s not a reboot. It\u2019s gonna be a different version, I guess,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be really fun. I was excited to bring the characters back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Wizards of Waverly Place\u2019 Premiere Date<\/h2>\n

The first two episodes will premiere on the Disney Channel on October 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Disney+ will stream the first eight episodes on October 30.<\/p>\n

The original show aired from 2007 to 2012.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to multiple outlets, Raven\u2019s Home<\/em> star Raven-Symon\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> and Boy Meets World<\/em> alum Danielle Fishel<\/strong> are directing episodes of season 1.<\/p>\n

Why Did \u2018Wizards of Waverly Place\u2019 End?<\/h2>\n

The series reportedly ended in order for Selena to obtain different acting roles. However, she has never publicly confirmed this rumor. One year after the show concluded, the cast reunited for a TV movie sequel titled The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex<\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023, Jennifer revealed during an episode of her and David\u2019s podcast, \u201cWizards of Waverly Pod,\u201d that Selena turned down the opportunity in an \u201cAlex-Harper spinoff\u201d because of her hectic schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, I don\u2019t know how true this is, but I was told it was pitched to Selena \u2014 and I\u2019ll have to ask her this because I\u2019ve actually never asked her this \u2014 But I was told that it was pitched to Selena to do a Harper-Alex spinoff,\u201d Jennifer said. \u201cShe said \u2018no\u2019 because she had a lot of other things going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
