LeBron James<\/strong> is making it known that while on the court, he is just a teammate to his son Bronny<\/strong>\u2014not \u201cdad.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a teaser<\/a> for a new episode of Uninterrupted\u2019s The Shop<\/em> <\/a>podcast, the 39-year-old NBA veteran and Lakers star shared that when his 19-year-old rookie son takes the court for the first time with the Los Angeles Lakers this season, calling him by his parental title will be strictly off-limits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

After being asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s your working relationship? Is he going to call you \u2018dad\u2019 at practice, in the locker room?\u201d LeBron responded quickly, saying they had already discussed how things would go between them.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, he can\u2019t. Cannot call me \u2018dad\u2019 in the workplace. Once we leave out the private facility and the gates close, I could be \u2018dad\u2019 again\u2014in the car if we ride together, at home I could be \u2018dad.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, LeBron suggested alternative nicknames: \u201cHe got to call me \u20182-3\u2019 or \u2018Bron\u2019 or \u2018G-O-A-T\u2019 if he wants to; it\u2019s up to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s easy for me because I\u2019ve been calling him \u2018Bronny\u2019 for so long,\u201d James continued. \u201cIt\u2019s not like I\u2019ve been, \u2018Hey son, hey son.\u2019 So it\u2019s easy for me. It\u2019s gonna be an adjustment for him. But we cannot be running down the court, and he\u2019ll be like, \u2018Dad! Push the ball up! Dad! I\u2019m open! Dad, come on!\u2019 No, you cannot do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the Lakers selected LeBron\u2019s firstborn with their second-round pick in this year\u2019s draft, the duo has been set to make history as the first father-and-son pair to play in a regular-season game together.<\/p>\n

The father of three has long expressed his desire to share the court with his son before retiring. In an interview with Craig Melvin<\/strong> that aired on Today<\/em> on July 8, LeBron called Bronny signing with the Lakers \u201cthe greatest accomplishment that I\u2019ve ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n

LeBron praised his son for having \u201cdone it all as an individual\u201d and added, \u201cThere\u2019s no greater accomplishment that will be able to overtake me being on the same floor as my son.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the greatest thing that\u2019s ever happened,\u201d LeBron concluded.<\/p>\n

Bronny\u2014who suffered a cardiac arrest during a workout in July 2023\u2014had an uneven debut in the NBA Summer League, though his play improved over time. He averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists last season in 25 games at USC, where he started just six games.<\/p>\n

The upcoming NBA season, starting on Oct. 22 will be LeBron\u2019s 21st in the league.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
