Ryan Reynolds<\/strong><\/a> is calling on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to \u2014 at long last \u2014 recognize stunt coordinators at the Oscars. In a lengthy new social media post, the 47-year-old Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em><\/a> star explained why stunt workers should be honored at the annual Academy Awards.<\/p>\n \u201cStunt work doesn\u2019t have a category at the Oscars, and I hope that\u2019ll change someday,\u201d Ryan wrote via X<\/a> on Wednesday, August 28. \u201cSo many films have smashed it this year. Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Chaplin were stunt performers as well as filmmakers. Telling stories with their entire bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n Ryan then applauded the stunt team who worked with him and his co-star Hugh Jackman<\/strong><\/a> on the set of Deadpool & Wolverine,<\/em> which premiered on July 26.<\/p>\n \u201cThis D&W stunt team over-delivered,\u201d Ryan continued, before adding, \u201cA lot of them are friends I\u2019ve worked with for years, and I\u2019ll spend the rest of my days doodling their names in my Heidi Stationary, dotting all the \u2018i\u2019s\u2019 with little hearts. I\u2019ve worked with Alex Kyshkovych<\/strong> since the very first @deadpoolmovie. He not only doubles me \u2014 he\u2019s the fight coordinator.\u201d<\/p>\n Stunt work doesn\u2019t have a category at The Oscars and I hope that\u2019ll change someday. His skill is world class, and he made the entire film better. I\u2019d let Alex to take a rusty fork to the eye for George.\u201d<\/p>\n Toward the end of his message, Ryan acknowledged that Hugh, 55, performed some of his own stunts; however, the Greatest Showman<\/em>\u2018s stunt double took on a heavier workload.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s mind boggling how much @RealHughJackman does himself. But Daniel Stevens<\/strong> steps in for the truly dangerous stuff,\u201d Ryan pointed out. \u201cHe\u2019s been \u201cWolverining\u201d a long time. As we know, Wolverining is HARD. I\u2019d ask Alex to eat the crab salad I left on the dashboard for three straight days for Dan.\u00a0Huge shoutout to Andy Lister<\/em> for bringing a new and insane Wolvie gear to the Deadpool Corps fight as well.\u201d<\/p>\n At the end of his tweet, Ryan encouraged his fans to join him in urging the Academy to finally recognize stunt workers in the film industry.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you\u2019d like to see @TheAcademy recognize the amazing work of stunt teams ACROSS THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY, let them know!\u201d Ryan concluded.<\/p>\n This isn\u2019t the first time that an actor has called for the recognition of stunt teams. Ryan Gosling<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s movie The Fall Guy<\/em> <\/a>highlights the arduous work that stunt teams perform. Additionally, Hollywood Life<\/strong> exclusively spoke<\/a> with Road House<\/em> star Dominique Columbus<\/a><\/strong> earlier this year, and he expressed the same sentiment.<\/p>\n \u201cOne thing I really want is for the stunt team to get their flowers,\u201d Dominique said earlier this year. \u201cIt bothers me to this day that the Academy Awards don\u2019t give awards to stuntmen [and women]. It bothers me. Because when I watch people running the stunts on set, this is not an easy task.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n
