{"id":257398,"date":"2024-08-28T11:28:39","date_gmt":"2024-08-28T11:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/28\/meta-and-google-staff-are-getting-jealous-of-wealthy-nvidia-peers\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T17:11:44","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T17:11:44","slug":"meta-and-google-staff-are-getting-jealous-of-wealthy-nvidia-peers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/28\/meta-and-google-staff-are-getting-jealous-of-wealthy-nvidia-peers\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta and Google staff are getting jealous of wealthy Nvidia peers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/img-assets\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/GettyImages-2089849308-e1724841498927.jpg?w=2048\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Employees of the tech world have been <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/27\/nvidia-employees-stress-pressure-work-place-stock-grants-wealth\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/27\/nvidia-employees-stress-pressure-work-place-stock-grants-wealth\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\" rel=\"noopener\">discussing the compensation packages at the Jensen Huang-led firm <\/a>vs the likes of Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s Meta and Sundar Pichai-led Google. <\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamblind.com\/post\/NVIDIA-employees-how-rich-are-you-BbrTUpkF\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.teamblind.com\/post\/NVIDIA-employees-how-rich-are-you-BbrTUpkF\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\">Blind<\/a>\u2014an anonymous forum for professionals in the software and tech space\u2014a user who says they formerly worked at Google asked Nvidia employees: \u201cHow rich are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One apparent Nvidia employee, who stated their net worth was around $3 million, responded that the wealth of employees \u201creally depends on your level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The individual added they still have $3 million in assets left to vest and were \u201cvery comfortable.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBought a $100k family car in all cash and didn\u2019t have to think about it,\u201d the post continued. \u201cThanks JHH [Jensen Huang].\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The individual\u2014who said the car they purchased was a \u201cdecked out\u201d BMW X7\u2014added they had been promoted within the last year to an Ic6, a principal engineer. <\/p>\n<p>Another user whose profile states they work for <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/snap\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/snap\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\" rel=\"noopener\">Snap<\/a> wrote: \u201cWife and I are worth $14.8M at 32, none of us work at NVDA but we live in the Bay Area and have some old timer friends there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery single one of them is worth over $25m. It\u2019s nuts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another user whose profile shows they work for Meta chimed in: \u201cThe more I hear about Nvidia employees and their riches, the more jealous I feel. Anybody with me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meta and Google did not immediately respond to <em>Fortune\u2019s<\/em> approach for comment.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why are Nvidia staff so wealthy?<\/h2>\n<p>The ballooning wealth of Nvidia employees is thanks to the rocketing share price of the company, and the organization\u2019s now famously attractive stock incentives.<\/p>\n<p>Through Nvidia\u2019s employee stock purchase plan, employees can contribute up to 15% of their salary to buy company shares at a 15% discount. <\/p>\n<p>This has led to examples including one mid-level employee who bought in for 18 years\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/firstadopter\/status\/1778536699221672052\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/twitter.com\/firstadopter\/status\/1778536699221672052\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\">reportedly<\/a>\u00a0retiring with shares worth $62 million, according to\u00a0<em>Barron\u2019<\/em>s senior technology editor Tae Kim.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia\u2019s shares have ballooned over the past few years in particular, leading to the corresponding spike in the net worth of shareholders like employees and CEO Huang. <\/p>\n<p>In October 2022, Nvidia was trading at around $14 a share\u2014today, it has risen to almost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=nvidia+shares&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=nvidia+shares&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\">$130 a share<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Huang\u2019s net worth, which is largely tied up in the chip-making giant, has also experienced a boost: In October 2022 Huang was worth a little over $11 billion, at the time of writing his fortune is valued at $112 billion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/billionaires\/profiles\/jenhsun-huang\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/billionaires\/profiles\/jenhsun-huang\/\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\">per the Bloomberg Billionaire\u2019s Index<\/a>, making him the 12th richest person on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>His 3.8% stake in the company is so significant <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/06\/nvidia-jensen-huang-stock-sales-before-selloff\/#\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/06\/nvidia-jensen-huang-stock-sales-before-selloff\/#\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\" rel=\"noopener\">that he can afford to offload hundreds<\/a> of thousands of shares on a near-daily basis, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/22\/nvidia-jensen-huang-stock-sale-succession-planning\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/22\/nvidia-jensen-huang-stock-sale-succession-planning\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\" rel=\"noopener\">worth an average of $14m a sale<\/a>, without it having a massive impact on either the market or his stake.<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia did not immediately respond to <em>Fortune\u2019s<\/em> approach for comment. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nvidia\u2019s culture<\/h2>\n<p>With millionaire status on the line for Nvidia employees, it\u2019s perhaps no surprise that a lot is <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/04\/30\/nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-demanding-perfectionist-say-staff\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/04\/30\/nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-demanding-perfectionist-say-staff\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\" rel=\"noopener\">expected of them<\/a> at work. <\/p>\n<p>In an interview with\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DpQQi2scsHo\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DpQQi2scsHo\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 hoNHBb\">60 Minutes<\/a><\/em> released this Spring Huang was told some of the words his team used to describe him, including \u201cdemanding,\u201d \u201cperfectionist,\u201d and \u201cnot easy to work for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huang said those descriptors fit him \u201cperfectly,\u201d explaining: \u201cIt should be like that.
