At 42 years old, the <em>Superman<\/em> star suffered a severe spinal cord injury after falling from his horse during an equestrian competition, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">Reeve first donned the iconic Superman cape at just 24 years old. His <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/christopher-reeve-kids-5245173\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">children<\/a> continue to honor his legacy, with his daughter<a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/christopher-reeve-kids-5245173\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong> Alexandra Reeve<\/strong><\/a> stating in the trailer, \u201cMy dad was very competitive, and he didn\u2019t necessarily slow down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\">Actress <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/pics\/jane-seymour-young-photos\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Jane Seymour<\/strong><\/a>, who spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/what-happened-to-christopher-reeve-8701511#:~:text=Reeve%20was%2042%20years%20old,cord%20injury%20research%20and%20treatment.\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">People<\/span><\/i><\/a> in March 2024, reflected on Reeve\u2019s determination: \u201cHe refused to believe that it was impossible for people with spinal injuries to recover, and nobody was spending much money on spinal injuries. They just gave up on them, and he said, \u2018No, no. Go do something about it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">Together with his wife Dana, Reeve founded the Christopher and<strong> Dana Reeve<\/strong> Foundation to support those affected by spinal cord injuries. According to the foundation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christopherreeve.org\/community\/about-us\/history-of-the-reeve-foundation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a>, \u201cIn 2002, the Reeve Foundation\u2019s National Paralysis Resource Center (NPRC) opened its doors thanks to the leadership and vision of Dana Reeve. Through the NPRC, we serve as a free, comprehensive, national source of informational support for people living with paralysis and their caregivers.
