Ted Lasso<\/a> <\/em>has been one of the biggest shows on television, and its third season appeared to be the last. The Emmy Award-winning comedy led by Jason Sudeikis<\/strong><\/a> had its season 3 finale<\/a> in 2023. If you\u2019re wondering why such a popular series would end after only three seasons, Jason has said that he always had a three-season arc<\/a> in mind for the series. However, a new report claims that a season 4 is in development at Apple TV+.<\/p>\n

On August 24 ,2024, Deadline<\/em><\/a> reported that Warner Bros. Television was moving forward with three cast members to return for a fourth season.<\/p>\n

Here is everything you need to know about the future of Ted Lasso.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018Ted Lasso\u2019 Season 4: Is It Happening?<\/h2>\n

In August 2023,\u00a0Declan Lowney<\/strong>, who directed several episodes of the show, told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that the show was over \u2014 \u201cfor now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody knew it was the end, but it\u2019s also the end for now<\/em>,\u201d he said about the season 3 finale. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be two or three years before anything happens \u2014 if anything happens \u2014 so let\u2019s try and tie up all these stories properly,\u201d Declan added.<\/p>\n

Previously, the Ted Lasso\u00a0<\/em>team said that the show would likely end after season 3. In June 2021, Jason Sudeikis, who co-created and executive produced the series, and also stars as Ted Lasso himself, all but confirmed that there would be no Ted Lasso\u00a0<\/em>season 4. Jason said to Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/em>, \u201cThe story that\u2019s being told \u2013 that three-season arc \u2013 is one that I see, know, and understood. I\u2019m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

In that same interview, Jason\u2019s co-creator and co-star\u00a0Brendan Hunt<\/strong>, said that Ted Lasso\u00a0<\/em>was \u201calways meant to be three seasons.\u201d He added, \u201cIt\u00a0would be pretty cool if, in the face of how much everyone likes this show, that we stick to our guns and really just do three seasons. But even as committed to that idea as Jason may have been, none of us were prepared to the degree to which people love this show. I will say that, whatever he [Jason] decides, I will happily abide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brett Goldstein<\/strong><\/a>, who plays fan-favorite Roy Kent, said in a\u00a02022 interview with\u00a0Sunday Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that season 3 of\u00a0Ted Lasso <\/em>was being written as the end of the series. \u201cIt was planned as three,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

However, that all changed in 2024. That August, Deadline<\/em><\/a> reported that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift were returning for a fourth season. According to the outlet, Apple TV+ will have to work out agreements with other cast members who had SAG-AFTRA contracts expire.<\/p>\n

None of the Ted Lasso<\/em> actors has publicly spoken out about the season 4 news.<\/p>\n

What Happened At The End Of \u2018Ted Lasso\u2019 Season 3?<\/h2>\n

The season 3 finale (and series finale?) of\u00a0Ted Lasso\u00a0<\/em>aired May 31, and it was such an emotional conclusion. The long-awaited showdown between AFC Richmond and West Ham finally happened \u2014 and Richmond won! They ultimately finish second in the league after Manchester City. Jamie and Roy almost come to blows over Keeley, who turns them both down and chooses herself. Roy is named the new manager of AFC Richmond and starts therapy with Dr. Sharon.<\/p>\n

Ted decides to leave to go back to America to his ex-wife Michelle and their son Henry. Beard changes his mind about leaving with Ted and stays to marry Jane. Beard, Roy, and Nate lead the team in Ted\u2019s absence. Rebecca sells 49% of the club to the fans. After she says goodbye to Ted at the airport, she reunites with the Dutchman she met in Amsterdam, who is a pilot. Keeley comes up with the idea of a Richmond woman\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

Before Ted leaves, Trent changes the name of his book from The Lasso Way\u00a0<\/em>to T<\/em>he Richmond Way<\/em>. Ted returns to America and starts coaching Henry\u2019s soccer team. He gives his son sound advice, fulfilling his goal of putting his family first.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ted Lasso\u2019 Spinoffs<\/h2>\n

The good news for\u00a0Ted Lasso\u00a0<\/em>fans, is that Jason seems really into the idea of spinoffs about some of the characters. That means we could see the stories continue for\u00a0Hannah Waddingham<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Rebecca, Juno Temple<\/strong>\u2018s Keeley, Phil Dunster<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Jamie Tartt, and others.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I think that we\u2019ve set the table for all sorts of folks\u2026to get to watch the further telling of these stories,\u201d Jason told Deadline<\/em> about possible\u00a0Ted Lasso\u00a0<\/em>spinoffs. \u201cAgain, I can\u2019t help but take the question as flattery for what all of us that were working on the show has tried to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brendan Hunt hinted that spinoffs could happen, when he mentioned to\u00a0Yahoo Canada<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>that \u201ceverything is on the table\u201d in regards to the future of the show.\u00a0\u201cI can also say, we\u2019re not going to decide anytime soon,\u201d Brendan shared. \u201cWe\u2019re going to let this thing land, we\u2019re all going to go our separate ways for a little bit. We\u2019re going to reintroduce ourselves to the local institutions of our neighbourhoods and communities that we have been so neglectful of these past few years. After that all settled down, then we\u2019ll come back together and we\u2019ll figure out what\u2019s going to happen next, if anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nick Mohammed<\/strong><\/a>, who plays Nate Shelley, confirmed that he\u2019s down for a spinoff.\u00a0\u201cI feel like the writers were really open at the start and said that in their heads they\u2019d mapped out three-season arcs,\u201d he told Entertainment Weekly<\/i><\/a>. \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t mean that it definitely has to come to an end. There\u2019s no reason why it couldn\u2019t continue. So, we\u2019ll see. I hope there\u2019s more, but who knows.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of the\u00a0Ted Lasso\u00a0<\/em>cast pitched ideas of spinoffs to\u00a0The Daily Beast<\/em>. Jeremy Swift<\/strong>, who plays Leslie Higgins, would love a murder mystery spinoff. \u201cHiggins and Beard detective agency. But Beard is secretly corrupt and committing all the crimes. Higgins doesn\u2019t know anything about it,\u201d Leslie said. James Lance<\/strong> pitched a spinoff about his character Trent Crimm, while Cristo Fernandez <\/strong>said that while he thinks a spinoff for his character Dani Rojas \u201cwould be cool,\u201d he\u2019d like to see a new show about Roy\u2019s niece Phoebe.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
