Richard Simmons<\/strong><\/a>\u2018 cause of death has been revealed. The late fitness guru\u2019s brother, Lenny, received the official coroner\u2019s report one month after Simmons was found dead<\/a> in bed by his housekeeper on July 13. He was 76 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning, Richard Simmons\u2019 brother Lenny, received a call from the LA Coroner\u2019s office,\u201d a Simmons family spokesperson told PEOPLE<\/em><\/a> on Wednesday, August 21. \u201cThe coroner informed Lenny that Richard\u2019s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor. The toxicology report was negative other than medication Richard had been prescribed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rep\u2019s statement concluded by noting, \u201cThe family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simmons \u2014 known for his personality in the fitness and health world \u2014 spoke to the outlet just two days before his death. He discussed how he was planning to celebrate his 76th birthday, which fell on July 12.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel good!\u201d he said. \u201cI am grateful that I\u2019m here, that I am alive for another day. I\u2019ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people.\u201d<\/p>\n

While reflecting on his career, Simmons pointed out that he was more introverted in comparison to his gregarious public persona. \u201cI never thought of myself as a celebrity,\u201d he admitted in the July interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople don\u2019t know this, I\u2019m really a shy person and a little bit of an introvert,\u201d he said during his final interview. \u201cBut when that curtain goes up that\u2019s a different story. I\u2019m there to make people happy. But the accolades I get from emails. I mean, today most probably, we\u2019ll answer over 100 emails. And they\u2019ll say, \u2018I\u2019m your No. 1 fan.\u2019 And I just write back, and I say, you know, \u2018Don\u2019t say that because I\u2019m a human being just like you. And I know that you do good things, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, a biopic about Simmons was rumored to be in the works. However, the late television personality made it clear that he wasn\u2019t on board with the project in a statement he shared to social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie,\u201d Simmons explained. \u201cSo, don\u2019t believe everything you read. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
