Former View<\/em> star Meghan McCain<\/strong> had some words about how Blake Lively<\/strong> has been promoting her movie It Ends with Us<\/em>\u2014a story about a woman grappling with domestic abuse.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you\u2019re taking on the responsibility of telling the story about a woman in a domestic violence situation, you have to be respectful that you\u2019re representing millions and millions of women and men who are victims of domestic violence,\u201d McCain said on Wednesday\u2019s episode of her Citizen McCain<\/em> podcast<\/a>, referring to a promotional clip<\/a> where Lively suggested women see the film. \u201cI was very surprised at some of her responses.\u201d<\/p>\n The 39-year-old added, \u201cI think the tone she\u2019s setting in a lot of the press with this, saying, \u2018Put on your florals and come together, girls.’\u201d<\/p>\n The Age of Adaline<\/em> star, known for her upbeat demeanor and comedic rapport with her husband, Deadpool<\/em> star Ryan Reynolds<\/strong>, has been accused of taking a misguided approach to promoting the movie\u2014which is based on the bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover<\/strong> and covers themes of domestic violence and abuse.<\/p>\n In the film, Lively\u2019s character, Lily Bloom, becomes involved with an abusive man, Ryle Kincaid, played by director Justin Baldoni<\/strong>\u2014who was rumored to have an ongoing feud with his co-star.<\/p>\n However, during her movie tour, Lively encouraged cinemagoers to \u201cbring their florals,\u201d echoing the \u201cwear pink\u201d trend around Barbie<\/em> last year, while avoiding explicit mentions of domestic violence.<\/p>\n McCain expressed her discomfort with this approach, saying, \u201cI don\u2019t want to put florals on and go with my girlfriends to watch a fun girl movie about domestic violence,\u201d calling the suggestion \u201cvery insensitive and, quite frankly, strange.\u201d<\/p>\n McCain then shifted the conversation to more personal criticism of Lively, admitting, \u201cI don\u2019t understand why she\u2019s famous other than Gossip Girl<\/em> and being married to Ryan Reynolds,\u201d adding, \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen anything she\u2019s actually in.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m also just f***ing sick of hearing about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively,\u201d McCain confessed toward the end of her commentary. \u201cI\u2019m sick of hearing about them, and I think that\u2019s a dangerous spot for any celebrity.\u201d<\/p>\n If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please call the\u00a0<\/i>National Domestic Violence Hotline<\/a><\/i>\u00a0at\u00a0<\/i>1-800-799-7233<\/a><\/i>\u00a0for confidential support.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
