The fairytale of \u201cBennifer\u201d<\/a> has ended<\/a> in heartbreak. Following nearly four months of speculation<\/a> over their marital status, Jennifer Lopez<\/strong><\/a> filed for divorce<\/a> from her now-estranged husband, Ben Affleck<\/strong><\/a>. Neither has publicly commented on their pending divorce, but the pair has faced public scrutiny since the springtime after they hadn\u2019t been seen together for more than one month. So, what was the reason for their breakup?<\/p>\n

Did Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Sign a Prenup?<\/h2>\n

According to TMZ<\/em><\/a>, Jennifer did not indicate in her divorce filing whether or not she and Ben had signed a prenuptial agreement when they got married in 2022. The outlet also reported that the Selena<\/em> actress submitted the filing \u201cpro per,\u201d which means without an attorney.<\/p>\n

Shortly after J. Lo filed for divorce from Ben at the Los Angeles Superior Court on August 20, multiple outlets reported what led to their split. A source told PEOPLE<\/em><\/a> that Ben \u201chasn\u2019t given [Jennifer] any signs that he wants to continue their marriage\u201d and that he \u201chasn\u2019t shown any commitment and interest in making their marriage work.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself,\u201d the insider told the outlet.<\/p>\n

While a reason for their separation is still unclear, fans grew concerned after watching Jennifer\u2019s documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told<\/em><\/a>, which was released earlier this year on Prime Video. The doc revealed that the \u201cOn the Floor\u201d artist reopened the Oscar winner\u2019s private love letters to Jennifer while working on her album This Is Me \u2026 Now <\/em>with other musicians.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did really find the beauty and the poetry and the irony in the fact that it\u2019s the greatest love story never told,\u201d Ben said about the letters. \u201cIf you\u2019re making a record about it, that seems kind of like telling it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennifer filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, which marked the second anniversary of her and Ben\u2019s Georgia wedding ceremony. Though they officially tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022, the former couple held a formal event with their families and friends the following month.<\/p>\n
