Billionaire venture capital investor Ron Conway reportedly cut ties<\/a> with a cryptocurrency super PAC called Fairshake<\/a> after the group said it would support the Republican running against Sen. Sherrod Brown<\/a> (D-Ohio), according to a Politico<\/em> report.<\/p>\n Brown is the longtime chair of the Senate banking committee and has raised concerns <\/a>about cryptocurrency<\/a> in the past, particularly after the disastrous $30 billion collapse of crypto exchange FTX in 2022<\/a>. Last week, a network of crypto-funded super PACs announced it would spend $12 million to support Brown\u2019s challenger, Republican Bernie Moreno<\/a>, who is crypto friendly. According to Politico<\/em>\u2019s report, Conway was incensed to discover the financial support to Moreno and wrote in an email reported by the outlet that he had plans to discuss Democratic lawmakers\u2019 views<\/a> on digital assets with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) when he learned.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cYou all know that is \u2018slap in the face\u2019 to Sen. Schumer And a \u2018slap in the face\u2019 to me when you know Im meeting him in SF tomorrow. How short sighted and stupid can you possibly be?\u201d Conway wrote, according to the report. He also complained emphatically about being blindsided by the news<\/p>\n \u201cNOT ONE PERSON BOTHERED TO GIVE ME A HEADS UP THAT YOU WERE DOINIG [sic] THIS,\u201d Conway wrote. Conway said he was finished with the group due to a lack of shared values.\u00a0<\/p>\n Conway is a major Democratic donor who has endorsed<\/a> Democratic presidential nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris and is among the roughly 100 venture capitalists and founders who have joined VCs for Kamala. Conway has donated about $500,000 to two different Harris-related funds, with his latest $25,000 pledge<\/a> at the end of June. Once dubbed the \u201cGodfather of Silicon Valley<\/a>,\u201d Conway is managing partner and founder of SV Angel<\/a>, and\u00a0his firm has been involved in the successes of Airbnb<\/a>, Facebook<\/a>, Google<\/a>, and Twitter<\/a>. He has also invested in at least 10 crypto firms<\/a>, including Coinbase<\/a> and Uniswap.\u00a0<\/p>\n Fairshake donors include high-profile cryptocurrency investors and other players, including Coinbase, Ripple, venture firm a16z, and Union Square Ventures.
