Danielle Fishel<\/strong> is opening up about her recent health scare\u2014a breast cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n During the Aug. 19 episode of her Pod Meets World<\/em> podcast, Fishel shared with her co-hosts, fellow Boy Meets World<\/em> castmates Rider Strong<\/strong> and Will Friedle<\/strong>, that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.<\/p>\n \u201cI was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer,\u201d the 43-year-old disclosed.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is very, very, very early. It\u2019s technically stage zero. To be specific\u2014just because I like too much information all the time\u2014I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion.\u201d<\/p>\n Fishel assured fans that she was \u201cgoing to be fine\u201d and planned to have surgery to remove the cancer before undergoing a series of follow-up treatments.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve had to make a lot of decisions over the last couple of days,\u201d she said, before adding that she initially planned on only telling her inner circle. She thought she\u2019d prefer to \u201csuffer in silence\u201d and \u201csuck it up,\u201d only sharing with others after she\u2019d beaten it.<\/p>\n Fishel, who first only told her husband, Jensen Karp<\/strong>\u2014with whom she shares sons Adler<\/strong>, 5, and Keaton<\/strong>, 2\u2014along with her parents and brother, said she decided to share her experience with listeners to encourage them to get mammograms regularly.<\/p>\n \u201cThe more people I talk to, the more people have had their own experiences\u2014either being diagnosed with cancer themselves or knowing a family member who\u2019s been diagnosed with cancer\u2014and the world of resources and experiences that can be shared by sharing it, and things that can be learned.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram was due, I made the appointment,\u201d Fishel shared.<\/p>\n Acknowledging just how easy it is to let preventative and routine check-ups slip by, Fishel pleaded with fans to hear her message.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would be so easy to say, \u2018I don\u2019t have time for that. I went to my mammogram last year; I was fine last year, I don\u2019t need to go again this year. What are the chances? It\u2019s gonna be fine; I was fine last year.\u2019 And I didn\u2019t. Instead, I was like, \u2018Yeah, it\u2019s time\u2014gotta make that appointment,\u2019 and they found it so, so, so early that I\u2019m going to be fine,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cIf it\u2019s time for your appointment, if you\u2019ve never had an appointment before, get in there. If you have to find out that you have cancer, find out when it\u2019s at stage 0, if possible.\u201d<\/p>\n Strong and Friedle both rallied around their friend and longtime colleague.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s mind-boggling. Right now, my wife and I know four people\u2014four friends\u2014who are dealing with breast cancer,\u201d said Strong, also encouraging fans to \u201cget checked.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd for men, too\u2014prostate exams and colonoscopies\u2014these are all things that are super important, so don\u2019t put them off,\u201d Friedle added.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
