While he won\u2019t be required to relocate to Seattle for the new gig, he did <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/14\/starbucks-ceo-brian-niccol-113-million-payday-remote-work\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/14\/starbucks-ceo-brian-niccol-113-million-payday-remote-work\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">agree<\/a> to commute from his home in Newport Beach, Calif., when necessary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Niccol\u2019s offer includes a $10 million sign-on bonus and equity awards totaling $75 million. Starting in fiscal 2025, he will also be eligible to receive additional annual equity awards worth up to $23 million. All of this is on top of his <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/15\/starbucks-brian-niccol-ceo-pay-package-salary-executive-compensation-seattle\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/15\/starbucks-brian-niccol-ceo-pay-package-salary-executive-compensation-seattle\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">annual base salary of $1.6 million<\/a> and an annual cash bonus ranging from $3.6 million to $7.2 million, depending on Niccol\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, he\u2019ll enjoy personal travel of up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/829224\/000119312524200724\/d848513dex101.htm\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/829224\/000119312524200724\/d848513dex101.htm\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\">$250,000<\/a> on the company\u2019s corporate jet.<\/p>\n<p>Before he left his burrito-bowl empire,<em> Fortune<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/05\/30\/chipotle-mexican-grill-ceo-brian-niccol-success-advice\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/05\/30\/chipotle-mexican-grill-ceo-brian-niccol-success-advice\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">met<\/a> with Niccol in May at a New York City Chipotle restaurant to learn how he <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/13\/starbucks-ceo-daily-routine-chipotle-brian-niccol\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/13\/starbucks-ceo-daily-routine-chipotle-brian-niccol\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">spends his day<\/a> running a company that pulled in nearly $3 billion in revenue last quarter. <\/p>\n<p>He also revealed his go-to Chipotle order: a chicken bowl with white rice, fajita veggies, pico de gallo, and a little bit of cheese. To complement his meal, he said he orders a barbacoa quesadilla, plus chips and guacamole on the side.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s probably a little too much food for my age,\u201d Niccol, 50, said. \u201cBut you know, it\u2019s hard to resist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now the incoming CEO of the largest coffee company on the <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/ranking\/fortune500\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/ranking\/fortune500\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Fortune 500<\/em><\/a>, Niccol is no stranger to prioritizing caffeine to power his workdays. He told <em>Fortune<\/em> he starts his mornings enjoying his first cup of joe of the day while reading the <em>Wall Street Journal <\/em>and tuning for CNBC\u2019s <em>Squawk Box.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI usually make an Americano in the morning,\u201d he said. \u201cI probably have three or four cups of coffee; one or two in the morning and then one or two in the afternoon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Niccol told <em>Fortune<\/em> he\u2019s partial to espresso, too: \u201cAlways hot, and if I can, I like to have a cookie with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-tiktok wp-block-embed-tiktok\"\/>\n<p><strong>Starbucks CEOs\u2019 coffee orders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Niccol\u2019s coffee order resembles that of his Starbucks predecessors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Former CEO Kevin Johnson, who first joined the coffee company in 2009, served as chief executive from 2017 until 2022 before <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/videos\/watch\/starbucks-ceo-kevin-johnson-is-retiring-\/df738fe1-f992-4e75-9951-e94ae97c8274\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/videos\/watch\/starbucks-ceo-kevin-johnson-is-retiring-\/df738fe1-f992-4e75-9951-e94ae97c8274\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">retiring<\/a>. In a 2019 interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2019\/09\/starbucks-ceo-kevin-johnson-on-work-joy-and-yes-coffee#:~:text=I%20usually%20go%20to%20the,Americano%2C%20but%20it's%20mostly%20espresso.\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/hbr.org\/2019\/09\/starbucks-ceo-kevin-johnson-on-work-joy-and-yes-coffee#:~:text=I%20usually%20go%20to%20the,Americano%2C%20but%20it's%20mostly%20espresso.\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\"><em>Harvard Business Review<\/em><\/a>, Johnson said he often frequented the local Starbucks location to get his caffeine fix in the morning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI order a triple espresso with just a splash of hot water,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, I guess technically it\u2019s an Americano, but it\u2019s mostly espresso.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After catching up on the news, checking his email, and arriving at Starbucks\u2019 headquarters in Seattle, Johnson enjoyed his second cup of the day: a French press. With no shortage of fresh brews at the office, he said he and his team also started every meeting with the ritual of a coffee tasting, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI might sample three or four coffees throughout the day before a meeting,\u201d he told the publication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His successor was a familiar face around Starbucks HQ and the office coffee bar. Howard Schutlz came out of retirement to serve as interim CEO from 2022 to 2023 after previously leading the company from 1986 to 2000 and from 2008 to 2017. In a 2008 blog post, Schultz <a href=\"https:\/\/stories.starbucks.com\/press\/2008\/howard-schultz-transformation-agenda-communication-8\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/stories.starbucks.com\/press\/2008\/howard-schultz-transformation-agenda-communication-8\/\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\">revealed<\/a> his \u201chands-down\u201d favorite coffee blend: Aged Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAged for three to five years in a warehouse in Singapore, then shipped as green coffee to our plant in Kent, Washington, and roasted to perfection,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThe result is a stunning cup of coffee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schultz\u2019s replacement in 2023 opted for a more hands-on approach to coffee immersion.
