The 23-year-old artistic gymnast appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XVommbrKdMs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><em>TODAY<\/em><\/a>, where she opened up about her feelings on being bumped to third place rather than fifth after Team USA challenged the judges\u2019 initial score.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">\u201cHonestly, there were so many emotions going through my body in that moment,\u201d Jordan said during the Thursday, August 8, interview. \u201cThere [were] a lot of things happening, [from] me not being on the podium to me being on the podium. I think the biggest thing is just always understanding not to doubt yourself, and just to let everything ride out how it\u2019s supposed to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">While thanking her teammate and long-time friend <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/simone-biles\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Simone Biles<\/strong> <\/a>for being part of her \u201csupport system,\u201d Jordan added that the 27-year-old gymnastics GOAT is \u201clike a big sister to [her],\u201d and her coach, C\u00e9cile Canqueteau-Landi \u201cis like another mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe title=\"Jordan Chiles talks wins in Paris, friendship with Simone Biles\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XVommbrKdMs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">\u201cThat was definitely a great moment to have,\u201d the Olympian added. \u201cSimone has done so much for me, I feel like, in that moment, I realized that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\">The now-viral moment has divided viewers around the world. Last weekend, Jordan was initially in fifth place after completing her floor routine, and Romania\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2024\/08\/06\/ana-barbosu-reacts-after-jordan-chiles-wins-bronze\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Ana B\u0103rbosu<\/strong><\/a> had the third place spot. Jordan\u2019s coach, C\u00e9cile, promptly submitted an inquiry to the judges to challenge the difficulty score. After running out with the Romanian flag to celebrate, Ana noticed that the judges updated the athletes\u2019 placements, moving Jordan up to third instead of her. Ana was then seen walking away in tears.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">Jordan celebrated by emotionally hugging her coach and Simone before they <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/2024\/08\/05\/simone-biles-and-jordan-chiles-bow-down-to-rebeca-andrade-after-floor-final\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">received their medals<\/a> at the podium.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">Over the past week, social media users expressed outrage over the matter. Even Romania\u2019s prime minister, <strong>Marcel Ciolacu<\/strong>, announced he will not attend the closing ceremony of the Olympics in protest of Ana being \u201cbrutally deprived\u201d of the placement she initially had.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\">Most recently, Jordan\u2019s coach spoke out about the situation via social media to explain how the athlete\u2019s score was changed.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">\u201cJordan\u2019s highest possible SV on floor is a 5.9,\u201d C\u00e9cile explained. \u201cAt quals and team finals she received a 5.8 and we didn\u2019t question it because we saw that not all elements were completed. During floor finals, we thought [it] was better and being placed 5th with nothing to lose, I sent the inquiry so I wouldn\u2019t regret not asking.
