Swimmer Katie Ledecky<\/strong> <\/a>and rower Nick Mead<\/strong>, two of Team USA\u2019s gold medal winners, have been named as the flagbearers for Team USA at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympics on Sunday, August 11.<\/p>\n The news was announced on Thursday, August 8, by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). She was visibly moved, reacting with an \u201coh\u201d before tearing up.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re making me cry,\u201d Ledecky responded.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a huge honor,\u201d she added. \u201cI can\u2019t wait for the closing ceremony. She will be joined by Mead, a 29-year-old two-time Olympian who earned his first medal as part of Team USA\u2019s gold medal-winning men\u2019s four\u2014the first U.S. gold in the event since the 1960 Olympics.<\/p>\n In a statement provided by Team USA, Mead highlighted what an \u201cincredible honor\u201d it is to serve as flagbearer, noting that rowing has never had an athlete selected for the role.<\/p>\n \u201cTo share this privilege with Katie makes it all the more special,\u201d said Mead. \u201cMy experience at the Paris Games has been the dream of a lifetime, and I\u2019m filled with immense pride, gratitude, and joy.
