Five of the top six times were personal bests, a season best, or a national record. <strong>Oblique Seville<\/strong> ran a 9.91 and finished last.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">The 27-year-old said that before he left for Paris, one of his physio guys assured him this race would be a squeaker.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\">\u201cHe said, \u2018This is how close first and second are going to be,\u2019\u201d Lyles recounted as he pinched his thumb and forefinger together so they were almost touching. \u201cI can\u2019t believe how right he was.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For those confused as to why Noah Lyles was awarded Gold instead of Thompson, even though Thompson\u2019s foot crossed 1st:<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">The clock stops when your torso crosses the line *not* 1st body part. Noah leans w\/ his chest, while Thompson subtly concaves his chest. More trash-talking. More races. More of the best facing off.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-19\">\u201cEverybody has their own vibe. I\u2019m a showman,\u201d Lyles declared in the documentary series <em>Sprint<\/em> on Netflix.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-20\">\u201cI feel like almost an artistic director. You have all these other athletes as stars, rock stars, popular wherever they go. Track and field needs to be the same. And I\u2019m not gonna be happy until I see that accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-21\">And it\u2019s not just trash talk with his track and field competitors. The United STATES?\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-26\">\u201cThat ain\u2019t the world,\u201d he continued amid laughter from reporters. \u201cThat is not the world. We are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show that they\u2019re represented. There ain\u2019t no flags in the NBA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-27\">NBA players and media didn\u2019t find Lyles\u2019 ridicule so amusing. They argued that the league comprises the best basketball players from around the globe and is therefore the best hoops competition on the planet despite not being an official world championship.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-28\">Lyles\u2019 comments sparked a firestorm of criticism and clap-backs. <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/kevin-durant\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Kevin Durant<\/strong><\/a> tweeted: \u201cSomebody help this brother.\u201d ESPN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/who-is-stephen-a-smith-5009407\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Stephen A. Smith<\/strong><\/a> called Lyles \u201cflagrantly ignorant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-29\">Fast forward to Saturday and the start of the men\u2019s 100 competition at Stade de France. Lyles finished second in his first-round heat, and his many detractors tweeted their delight about his potential downfall in Paris. He took second again in his semifinal early Sunday, giving his critics more hope.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lol na he an Olympic gold medalist. And he has the chance to win three more golds to match <strong>Carl Lewis<\/strong>\u2019 track and field record of four golds at the 1984 Olympic Games. He\u2019ll be an even bigger favorite to win his next event\u2014the 200 meters.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-33\">\u201cI\u2019ll be winning,\u201d\u00a0Lyles guaranteed. \u201cNone of them is winning. When I come off the turn, they will be depressed.\u201d Lyles was referring to his opponents in the 200.
