While scrolling through my Instagram feed sometime in the last month or so, a suggested Reel from artist Francesca Wexler popped up, and I couldn\u2019t help but get pulled in by her captivating flow. Her style isn\u2019t so easy to nail down to a single genre, but would fit under the alt hip-hop umbrella \u2014 she described her work in one instance as \u201cpsychedelic rap.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-iframe-wrapper\" data-embed-anchor=\"148d416f-1825-59ac-9a97-13d0a590935d\">\n<div class=\"caas-iframe youtube\" style=\"padding-bottom:56%\" data-type=\"youtube\">\n<blockquote data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FrVfwGyaMl4?rel=0\" scrolling=\"no\"><p><noscript><iframe title=\"Francesca Wexler - AIN&#039;T I (Official Music Video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FrVfwGyaMl4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Some songs on Wexler\u2019s latest album, <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:1;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/francescawexler.bandcamp.com\/album\/i-dreamt-i-found-a-red-ruby\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:I Dreamt I Found a Red Ruby;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:1;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"><em>I Dreamt I Found a Red Ruby<\/em><\/a>, have almost an ethereal quality to them, like its opening and closing tracks, \u201cHeaven on Earth\u201d and \u201cMoonwalking.\u201d The upbeat and catchy \u201cAin\u2019t I\u201d hits like a sunny day. But there are darker, harder moments too in songs like \u201cAmphetamine Man\u201d that really show off Wexler\u2019s depth as a rapper. With <em>I Dreamt I Found a Red Ruby, <\/em>it\u2019s evident that Wexler is an artist that shouldn\u2019t be slept on.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"caas-jump-link-heading\" id=\"orville-peck---stampede\">Orville Peck &#8211; <em>Stampede<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Orville Peck didn\u2019t make us wait long for a full album after dropping <em>Stampede: Volume 1<\/em> in May. On Friday, the country artist released the duets album in its entirety, and even though it hasn\u2019t been a full three days yet since it came out, I can already tell it\u2019s going to dominate my Most Listened playlists for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n<p><em>Stampede<\/em> sees Peck collaborating with country legends and emerging artists alike, and genre-wise, there\u2019s a little of everything in there. On top of the songs I <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/what-were-listening-to-trail-of-flowers-hyperdrama-science-fiction-and-more-143052023.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:shouted out from the first half;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">shouted out from the first half<\/a>, the rest of <em>Stampede <\/em>brings a bunch of new bangers, my favorites including \u201cBack At Your Door\u201d featuring Debbii Dawson, \u201cPapa Was a Rodeo\u201d featuring Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway, and \u201cYou\u2019re an Asshole, I Can\u2019t Stand You (and I Want a Divorce) featuring Margo Price.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-iframe-wrapper\" data-embed-anchor=\"73dd35e8-22a8-5011-a2da-8292bbd3d207\">\n<div class=\"caas-iframe youtube\" style=\"padding-bottom:56%\" data-type=\"youtube\">\n<blockquote data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VtM1Jlfx_eA?rel=0\" scrolling=\"no\"><p><noscript><iframe title=\"Orville Peck &amp; Debbii Dawson - Back At Your Door (Official Audio)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VtM1Jlfx_eA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"caas-jump-link-heading\" id=\"honorable-mention\"><strong>Honorable mention: <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Street Cleaner<\/strong> \u2014 I recently set out looking for music that sounds like it could be straight out of an \u201880s horror\/thriller movie, and Reddit pointed me to Street Cleaner. Well let me tell you, I was not disappointed. Street Cleaner, whose style is described on Bandcamp as being a \u201ctheatrical and grimey take on synth music,\u201d has become my go-to artist to pop on when I need to get some work done or otherwise be locked in.<\/p>\n<p>There isn\u2019t a particular song or album I&#8217;ve latched onto \u2014 I just throw the entire discography on and let it get me in the zone. Street Cleaner released some <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/streetcleaner.bandcamp.com\/album\/two-graves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:new music;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">new music<\/a> in April, though, and that&#8217;s as good a place as any to start your listening journey.
