As the 67-year-old Dimon approaches <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/05\/30\/jamie-dimon-jpmorgan-ceo-chairman-potential-move\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/05\/30\/jamie-dimon-jpmorgan-ceo-chairman-potential-move\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">the possible end of his term<\/a> at the helm of JPMorgan, he called for \u201cunity\u201d in government but at the same time endorsed some controversial ideas.<\/p>\n<p>One of his biggest focuses, as one might expect, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/07\/18\/jamie-dimon-next-president-address-national-debt-market-crisis\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/07\/18\/jamie-dimon-next-president-address-national-debt-market-crisis\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">was on business<\/a>\u2014namely, giving business leaders more influence and proximity to the most powerful position in government. The CEO noted that the government, in his opinion, has previously failed to engage with industry leaders. Instead, the next president should add business leaders to their cabinet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe private sector has huge wells of expertise and produces 85 percent of our nation\u2019s jobs. It should have a seat at the table,\u201d Dimon wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to business leaders, Dimon said the next president should also add politicians from the opposing party to help build what he thinks is the best kind of team: a team of rivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe members of a president\u2019s Cabinet and administration should reflect the entire nation,\u201d Dimon wrote. \u201cTribal politics will not deliver the best talent and expertise across the political spectrum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dimon\u2019s comments come in the midst of a salient presidential race that has intensified since President Joe Biden decided not to run and Vice President Kamala Harris stepped up as the <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/02\/kamala-harris-secures-democratic-nomination-with-delegate-support-dnc-chair-confirms\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/08\/02\/kamala-harris-secures-democratic-nomination-with-delegate-support-dnc-chair-confirms\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">Democrats\u2019 presumptive nominee<\/a>. Former President Trump, for his part, has a 1 percentage point edge over Harris in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/us\/elections\/polls-president.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/us\/elections\/polls-president.html\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\">latest poll<\/a> by the <em>New York Times<\/em> and Siena College.<\/p>\n<p>As one of the most influential business leaders in finance, Dimon has often shared his views on economics, geopolitics, and government policy through interviews. Though rumors have circulated for years about Dimon\u2019s possible involvement in politics, including <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/06\/28\/jamie-dimon-democratic-presidential-nominee-joe-biden-gaffes-trump-debate\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/06\/28\/jamie-dimon-democratic-presidential-nominee-joe-biden-gaffes-trump-debate\/\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\" rel=\"noopener\">a presidential run<\/a>, the JPMorgan Chase CEO had repeatedly said he was not interested in leaving behind Wall Street for Washington D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, in a 2023 interview with <em>Bloomberg Television<\/em>, Dimon <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/05\/31\/economy\/jamie-dimon-politics\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/05\/31\/economy\/jamie-dimon-politics\/index.html\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\">changed his tone<\/a>, saying, \u201cMaybe one day I\u2019ll serve my country in one capacity or another.\u201d Although he later walked back his comments, Trump told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-07-23\/trump-floats-jamie-dimon-for-treasury-secretary-then-denies-it\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-07-23\/trump-floats-jamie-dimon-for-treasury-secretary-then-denies-it\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\"><em>Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em><\/a> in July that Dimon was somebody he would consider for Treasury Secretary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although Dimon had previously complimented Trump\u2019s former cabinet member and Republican opponent Nikki Haley (for which he earned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/11\/30\/trump-slams-jamie-dimon-over-nikki-haley-praise.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/11\/30\/trump-slams-jamie-dimon-over-nikki-haley-praise.html\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\">Trump\u2019s scorn<\/a>), the CEO said earlier this year that the former president was right on some issues, including immigration and the economy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dimon\u2019s most recent \u201cunity\u201d message echoes his January comments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/01\/17\/cnbc-transcript-jpmorgan-chase-chairman-ceo-jamie-dimon-speaks-with-cnbcs-squawk-box-from-the-world-economic-forum-in-davos-switzerland-today.html\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/01\/17\/cnbc-transcript-jpmorgan-chase-chairman-ceo-jamie-dimon-speaks-with-cnbcs-squawk-box-from-the-world-economic-forum-in-davos-switzerland-today.html\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ\">to <em>CNBC<\/em><\/a> at Davos, where he called for Democrats to respect Trump supporters and gave credit to the former president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at, just take a step back, be honest,\u201d Dimon said. \u201cHe\u2019s kind of right about NATO. Kind of right about immigration.
