Carrie Underwood<\/strong> <\/a>was apparently in talks \u201cfor a little bit\u201d to replace Katy Perry<\/strong><\/a> on American Idol<\/em>. According to showrunner Megan Wolflick, the series is in a \u201cnew era\u201d with the \u201cSomethin\u2019 Bad\u201d artist coming back 20 years<\/a> after winning season 4 of the competition.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have been searching, you know, and obviously talking to Carrie for a little bit here,\u201d Megan told Entertainment Tonight<\/em> <\/a>on Thursday, August 1. \u201cIt has been a little over two months since the [season 22] finale, but these talks have been going on for a while, and we\u2019ve been really excited to make it all happen.\u201d<\/p>\n As for why they thought of Carrie? That year, the country music star released her debut album, Some Hearts<\/em>, which includes her hit single \u201cBefore He Cheats.\u201d In the years to come, the Oklahoma native went on to sell more than 85 million records around the world. I mean, obviously, they both know her, they\u2019re excited to work with her.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a new era of the show and every new chapter of American Idol<\/em>,\u201d Megan explained. \u201cWhen we open up that first page, it is just as exciting as closing a chapter, and I cannot wait to embark on this journey with our first Idol alum with the panel.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Katy, 39, revealed her forthcoming departure from the series following seven seasons.<\/p>\n \u201cI think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol<\/em>,\u201d she said during a Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> appearance in February. \u201cI mean, I love Idol<\/em> so much. It\u2019s connected with me like the heart of America. But I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse, that pulse to my own beat.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n
