Some ChatGPT Plus users appear to already have access to the new feature, suggesting the rollout has begun \u2013 but not as fully as you might hope.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/sam-altman-officially-returns-to-openai-as-ceo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OpenAI CEO Sam Altman<\/a> promised a rollout \u201cnext week\u201d on July 25 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sama\/status\/1816560608554418401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when asked on X<\/a>, specifying that Plus subscribers will be the first to access Advanced Voice Mode.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">alpha rollout starts to plus subscribers next week!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sam Altman (@sama) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sama\/status\/1816560608554418401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 25, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Users have taken to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ChatGPT\/comments\/1eez7d4\/new_avm_message\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reddit\u2019s ChatGPT subreddit<\/a> to share a new message at the bottom of the ChatGPT app, reading: \u201cAdvanced Voice Mode is on the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur rollout of Advanced Voice Mode has started, and we\u2019re slowly enrolling users in the alpha to ensure the quality of the experience,\u201d the message continues. \u201cAll Plus users will have access by the end of fall \u2013 we\u2019ll let you know as soon as you\u2019re in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The end of fall could be as late as November and is suitably vague that it could arguably encompass any time before the end of the year. If you want a conservative expectation, perhaps go for \u2018by the end of 2024\u2019 as a more realistic window.<\/p>\n<p><noscript><iframe title=\"Character voices with GPT-4o voice\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4w0Pqs3CuWk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<h2>Why is Advanced Voice Mode coming later?<\/h2>\n<p>OpenAI did make a public statement on X back in June, clarifying that safety issues had meant a delay in the mode\u2019s rollout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had planned to start rolling this out in alpha to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users in late June, but need one more month to reach our bar to launch,\u201d the X post reads. \u201cFor example, we\u2019re improving the model\u2019s ability to detect and refuse certain content.
