It was supposed to come out on September 5. This is just the latest delay in a development cycle that <a data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/stalker-2-teaser-trailer-004843519.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:stretches all the way back to 2010;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>. That\u2019s 14 years. The longest delay in gaming history <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2008-06-05-first-footage-of-duke-nukem-forever.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:is Duke Nukem Forever;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em><\/em><\/a>, at 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s taking so long? At first, <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2012-01-12-s-t-a-l-k-e-r-2-still-in-development-gsc-seeking-funds-to-cont.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:it was funding issues;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>. Developer GSC Game World nearly shut down, but managed to weather the storm. Next, the makers spent a whole lot of time perfecting various mechanics and features, including a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/stalker-2-devs-time-teeth-134224004.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:new way to render human teeth;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Real world events intervened to continue the delay. Russia invaded Ukraine and GSC was based in Kyiv. The game was put on hold as the <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/stalker-reportedly-back-in-development-172547282.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:staff relocated to Prague;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a>, eventually picking back up on development in 2022. After that, the game <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/stalker-2-delayed-december-2022-gsc-game-world-160746289.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:was supposed to (finally) release;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><\/a> in December of last year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-iframe-wrapper\" data-embed-anchor=\"785f44a9-7c95-5f87-8c17-1b2a86e73674\">\n<div class=\"caas-iframe youtube\" style=\"padding-bottom:56%\" data-type=\"youtube\">\n<blockquote data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vxeGyXSM5Pc?si=k199hZdxJ3iZxsPc\"><p><noscript><iframe title=\"S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl \u2014 Really, Again?\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vxeGyXSM5Pc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>However, there were some kinks to work out, so the launch was pushed to September 5, 2024. It looks like the bugs are still popping up, because now it\u2019s set for November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know you might be tired of waiting, and we truly appreciate your patience. These two additional months will give us the chance to fix more \u2018unexpected anomalies\u2019 (or simply \u2018bugs\u2019 as you call them),\u201d wrote Yevhen Grygorovych, Game Director at GSC Game World, in a press release. \u201cWe\u2019re just as eager as you are to finally release the game and for you to experience it for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Who knows if it\u2019ll actually come out this November, but it\u2019s looking more and more likely. GSC also announced the pending release of a deep-dive video that will offer \u201cthe most comprehensive look yet into the game,&#8221; with a premiere date of August 12. This video will include developer interviews, new in-game footage and a full walkthrough of a story quest.<\/p>\n<p>For the uninitiated, <em>Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl<\/em> is a sequel to the hit 2007 FPS. The forthcoming follow-up brings some survival horror mechanics into the mix, which should be fun.
