The plotted value for each date is based solely on the GDP numbers that were publicly available as of one quarter after the indicated date, with 2024:Q1 the last date shown on the graph.  Shaded regions represent the NBER\u2019s dates for recessions, which dates were not used in any way in constructing the index.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Many analysts commented that the 2.8% Q2 estimate seems a sharp improvement over Q3\u2019s 1.4%. But inventory swings, which tend to be transitory, account for most of the difference.
