Former employees <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:1;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/kenny-schwarz-78b2b16_like-most-of-humble-games-today-i-was-notified-activity-7221574439220469762-SpjC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:posted;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:1;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"><\/a> about the layoffs on social media. Humble Games is owned by media conglomerate Ziff Davis, which counts <em>IGN<\/em>, <em>Eurogamer<\/em> and <em>GamesIndustry.biz<\/em> among its gaming portfolio. Humble Games confirmed in a LinkedIn <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/humble-games_in-these-challenging-economic-times-for-indie-activity-7221598856340271104-nrEL\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:post;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"><\/a> that there had been a &#8220;restructure&#8221; at the company, but did not reveal the number of jobs lost.<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs at Humble Bundle are the latest in a sweep across the gaming business. Last year saw <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/video-games-in-2023-acquisitions-layoffs-unions-143037174.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:a shocking number of cuts;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"><\/a> across studios of all sizes, and the trend has sadly <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/layoffs-are-sucking-the-joy-out-of-video-games--this-weeks-gaming-news-174541450.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:continued;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"><\/a> into 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The games industry is volatile, it&#8217;s been inundated by people who only want exponential growth at the expense of making great games with great teams,&#8221; Emilee Kieffer, a former lead quality assurance analyst with Humble Games, wrote on LinkedIn following the layoffs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet-wrapper\" data-embed-anchor=\"cb0469cb-a082-58ac-aec2-0811609c0e6e\">\n<blockquote placeholder=\"\" data-theme=\"light\" class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>Well friends, me and the entirety of Humble Games was laid off this morning<\/p>\n<p>If you need senior\/lead QA at your game studio HI HELLO I DON&#8217;T HAVE A JOB ANYMOOOORE! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/giAPAiTDsx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:pic.twitter.com\/giAPAiTDsx;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">pic.twitter.com\/giAPAiTDsx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \ud83c\udf83Emil-EEK!\ud83c\udf83 (@Emilee3D) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Emilee3D\/status\/1815803781629505985?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:July 23, 2024;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">July 23, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>The indie publisher helped bring almost 50 video games to market, including notable hits such as <em>Slay the Spire<\/em>, <em>Unpacking<\/em>, <em>Wandersong<\/em> and <em>Coral Island<\/em>. Humble Games also had several upcoming games slated for release, such as <em>Never Alone 2<\/em>, a second delve into mythology and stories from the indigenous I\u00f1upiat people in Alaska. It&#8217;s unclear at this stage how the closure will impact those projects, but it seems they may still be released.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This decision was not made lightly; it involved much deliberation and careful thought, with the goal of ensuring the stability and support of our developers and ongoing projects,&#8221; Humble&#8217;s statement said. The company also did not confirm if these layoffs would be followed by the studio&#8217;s closure.<\/p>\n<p>This business is a separate operation from the charity storefront Humble Bundle, which is also part of Ziff Davis but does not appear to be impacted by today&#8217;s news.
