If they\u2019re married, include their spouse and yours,\u201d the post reads. \u201cIt\u2019s a game changer. As the spouse hears about your culture and the job role, they\u2019re usually eager to share whether they think the position fits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s another bonus, the business adds: \u201cYou\u2019ll discover if your candidate is married to crazy. If they are, stay away.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Link between home life and work<\/h2>\n<p>While judging an individual\u2019s professional capabilities based on their choice of partner is unorthodox, the link between one\u2019s work and how life cannot go unnoticed. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"box-sizing:border-box;margin:0px;padding:0px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2017\/10\/if-you-cant-find-a-spouse-who-supports-your-career-stay-single\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/hbr.org\/2017\/10\/if-you-cant-find-a-spouse-who-supports-your-career-stay-single\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\">Studies<\/a>\u00a0have shown that husbands were a key factor in the decision of two-thirds of women who<\/span> left the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>For men, a marriage is a career advantage. <\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/jomf.12683\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/jomf.12683\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\">2020 study<\/a> found that the pay advantage to married men was between 2.6% to 3.5% more than their single counterparts. Married men were also more likely to be invited in for job interviews.<\/p>\n<p>But Ramsey\u2019s interest in what goes on behind closed doors in his employees\u2019 lives doesn\u2019t end there: he wants to see their personal expenses. <\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t down to hiring managers\u2019 nosiness; instead, the advice highlights that it irons out any friction around pay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan the candidate afford to live on the salary you provide? If not, sooner or later, they\u2019ll blame you for \u2018not paying enough\u2019 even though they accepted your offer and should know what they can and can\u2019t live on,\u201d the post explains. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people are worried about their bills, they\u2019re distracted and can\u2019t give their best. So serve your top candidates\u2014before they join you\u2014by making sure they can care for their family and meet their obligations with what you pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While both the spousal interview and budget chat are written as advice for other hiring managers, the process is in practice at Ramsey Solutions. <\/p>\n<p>On the careers page of the company, candidates are told to expect both a spousal interview and a budget exercise.<\/p>\n<p>Ramsey isn\u2019t one to shy away from some tough love for listeners. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/04\/09\/dave-ramsey-gen-z-millennials-suck-property-ladder\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=advanced_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/04\/09\/dave-ramsey-gen-z-millennials-suck-property-ladder\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=advanced_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">Earlier this year<\/a> he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sHgrjppC2-0\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sHgrjppC2-0\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\">Fox Business<\/a> there has \u201calways\u201d been a group of people who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/01\/26\/gen-z-over-having-work-ethic-questioned-most-boomers-dont-know-work-40-hours-week-not-afford-house\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/01\/26\/gen-z-over-having-work-ethic-questioned-most-boomers-dont-know-work-40-hours-week-not-afford-house\/\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">disagree with his money management strategies.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The host with more than 20 million listeners continued: \u201cThey say: \u2018You can\u2019t do it, the system has to change,\u2019 and they\u2019re a victim and they\u2019re entitled.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cIf they\u2019re preoccupied by the benefits, don\u2019t hire them\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>Despite an interest in how much employees need to earn, Ramsey and his team cautioned against hiring individuals who showed too much interest in their potential salary. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf their first question is about what you\u2019re going to do for them, they\u2019ll leave you for 10 cents more an hour,\u201d the post continues. \u201cThey\u2019re takers, not givers. You want people excited to add to your organization. If they\u2019re preoccupied by the benefits, don\u2019t hire them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coupled with this is identifying whether or not people want the role purely for the money, or because they feel strongly about the work they\u2019d be doing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLack of passion is the easiest way to spot someone just looking for a J-O-B.
