The move does not come as a surprise as the basic message app has been moved toward the fringes since the introduction of the S22 in 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google Messages will be the default option moving forward but any Samsung Messages aficionados will be relieved to know the app will still be available for download via the Galaxy Store, but \u201csome features will be excluded\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This development was outlined in the Samsung Members app, outlined by Market Research analyst Max Weinbach:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cStarting with Flip6, Fold6, and newer models, the Samsung Messages app will no longer be preloaded.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cInstead, Google Messages will provide a new and enhanced experience to express your emotions, making communication safe and fun.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Samsung Messages is no longer pre-loaded! Google Messages (with RCS enabled by default) only <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GoMqyM2p4Z\">pic.twitter.com\/GoMqyM2p4Z<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Max Weinbach (@MaxWinebach) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaxWinebach\/status\/1814793653371507040?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 20, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>When will users notice the change?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the rollout of the <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-6-price-rise\/\">Galaxy Z Fold 6<\/a> and Flip 6, Samsung Messages will be absent from the lineup of apps, with prominence given to Google\u2019s offering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was no explicit confirmation of which markets will first receive the update or if a global rollout will be applied immediately, but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/9to5google.com\/2024\/07\/20\/samsung-google-messages-no-longer-pre-installing\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">9to5 Google<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> claims Canadian and European devices will still support Samsung Messages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Samsung Messages app remains available for download <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through the Galaxy Store<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, though Samsung says \u201csome features will be excluded.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is RCS messaging?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/ios-18-beta-2-rcs-toggle-android-compatibility-carriers\/\">Rich communication services<\/a> (RCS) is a next-generation message standard between mobile carriers for instant communication. Think of the evolution of SMS with support for files and hi-res photos, group chats, audio, and video.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RCS is largely designed to replace SMS and MMS with Google in the driving seat to control its direction.
