Nicole Kidman<\/strong><\/a> made a rare comment about her ex-husband, Tom Cruise<\/strong><\/a>. While speaking with the Los Angeles Times<\/em> in an interview that was published last week, the 57-year-old actress was asked whether or not she believed that Eyes Wide Shut<\/em> director Stanley Kubrick<\/strong> was \u201cmining\u201d her marriage to Tom, 62, to their on-screen characters\u2019 relationship.<\/p>\n \u201cI suppose he was mining it,\u201d Nicole told the publication. \u201cThere were ideas he was interested in. He\u2019d ask a lot of questions. But he had a strong sense of the story he was telling.\u201d<\/p>\n The Undoing<\/em> alum added that she recalled Stanley saying, \u2018Triangles are hard. You have to tread carefully when it\u2019s a triangle.\u201d Nicole also pointed out that the director \u201cwas aware\u201d of how \u201cone person could feel ganged up on\u201d and \u201cknew how to manage\u201d that.<\/p>\n Upon being asked about an Eyes Wide Shut<\/em> scene that took several weeks to film, Nicole explained that it featured her and Tom \u201csmoking the spliff in bed and where [she laughs] and deliver[s] the long monologue.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat took many weeks,\u201d Nicole said. \u201cA lot of that was rehearsing in the bedroom and then him not liking what we\u2019d done. So, we ended up reworking it, constructing it as we went along. There was no need to rush. Stanley\u00a0would never go over budget. What he bought was time.\u201d<\/p>\n As for how this particular scene was created, Nicole pointed out it involved \u201ca lot of talking\u201d between her, Tom and Stanley.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen Tom and I first started with Stanley, it was at his home, and we didn\u2019t even go over to the sets at Pinewood [Studios],\u201d Nicole explained. \u201cSix, eight weeks passed, and we\u2019re wondering, \u2018Are we ever going to start?\u2019 And we just wouldn\u2019t start. We were getting comfortable with each other, comfortable enough to throw out ideas. For that scene, we improvised the beginning of it through the rehearsals.\u201d<\/p>\n Tom and Nicole first met in 1989 while working on the film Days of Thunder<\/em>. One year later, they tied the knot. During their marriage, the then-couple adopted kids Isabella<\/strong> and Connor Cruise<\/strong>.
