The 2024 Republican National Convention was filled with conservative elites, everyday Americans, and some celebrities, including Trump-loving musicians.<\/p>\n
From the Nashville-based band Sixwire keeping the attendees entertained for all four days in Milwaukee to Kid Rock<\/strong> warming up the crowd before Donald Trump<\/strong> came to the stage with a \u201cfight, fight\u201d rendition of a mashup of his old songs \u2018American Bad Ass\u2019 and \u2018Cowboy.\u2019<\/p>\n But Donald Fagen<\/strong>, Steely Dan\u2019s sole surviving co-founder, wasn\u2019t happy when his song \u2018Reelin\u2019 in the Years\u2019 was played by Sixwire as part of its setlist. They played his single \u2018All American Guy.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Celebrating the All American Guys with Chris Janson! #FromtheHart<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/Exs3nS8nHJ<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Charles Hart (@youneedahart) July 16, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The family of the late\u00a0Tom Petty\u00a0has condemned the apparent use of the musician\u2019s song \u201cI Won\u2019t Back Down\u201d at\u00a0Trump\u2019s 2020 campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n In a statement released on X, Tom Petty\u2019s daughters Adria and Annakim, widow Dana, and ex-wife Jane Petty wrote that they\u2019d \u201cissued an official cease and desist notice to the Trump campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTrump was in no way authorized to use this song to further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind,\u201d the family wrote in their statement.<\/p>\n While running for president, Trump used Elton John\u2019s songs \u201cRocket Man\u201d and \u201cTiny Dancer\u201d as warm-up music for his campaign rallies. But the iconic singer has made it clear his views are different from Trump\u2019s and he doesn\u2019t want his music involved in American politics.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u00a0don\u2019t really want my music to be involved\u00a0in anything to do with an American election campaign. I\u2019m British. I\u2019ve met Donald Trump, he was very nice to me, it\u2019s nothing personal, his political views are his own, mine are very different, I\u2019m not a Republican in a million years,\u201d John told The Guardian in 2016.<\/p>\n In 2018, Rihanna discovered her music was being played during one of his rallies via X.<\/p>\n In response to a\u00a0post on X<\/a>\u00a0from The Washington Post reporter Philip Rucker about her music being used, she\u00a0posted<\/a>, \u201cNot for much longer\u2026me nor my people would ever be at or around one of those tragic rallies, so thanks for the heads up philip!\u201d<\/p>\n Shortly after Rihanna posted on X in regards to her disapproval, her team sent out a cease-and-desist notice,\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n Since 2016, the band has sent out multiple statements calling for Trump to \u201ccease all use\u201d of their music,\u00a0Vulture<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n But\u00a0Trump continued using the band\u2019s song\u00a0\u201cYou Can\u2019t Always Get What You Want\u201d anyway.<\/p>\n In June 2020, representatives for the group \u2014 working with BMI, a performing-rights organization \u2014 released a statement saying that if Trump continued to use the band\u2019s music in his campaigning efforts, he may be sued.<\/p>\n On X, the Panic! At The Disco frontman told Trump\u2019s campaign to stop playing his song \u201cHigh Hopes,\u201d which played\u00a0as the president walked on stage at a 2020 rally in Phoenix, Arizona, per USA Today.<\/p>\n \u201cDear Trump Campaign, Fuck you. Members of his estate posted on X saying that the use of the song was against their wishes.<\/p>\n\n
