Give peace a chance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">On March 30, 1981, the then 25-year-old attempted to assassinate President <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/ronald-reagan\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Ronald Reagan<\/strong><\/a> outside the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Hinckley fired six shots, one of which hit Reagan in the chest, narrowly missing his heart. White House Press Secretary <strong>James Brady<\/strong>, Secret Service agent <strong>Tim McCarthy<\/strong>, and police officer <strong>Thomas Delahanty<\/strong> were also wounded in the attack.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">Hinckley claimed he was trying to impress actress <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/jodie-foster\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Jodie Foster<\/strong><\/a>, with whom he was obsessed. Reagan survived the assassination attempt, and Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and committed to a psychiatric facility.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">After his release, Hinckley has been attempting to delve into life as a musician, hoping people will give him a second chance and listen to his folk music. Venues in the past have booked him only to cancel at the last minute, which he referred to as \u201cstunt bookings.\u201d His shows have previously been canceled in New York, Virginia, and Hamden, Connecticut.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">In 2022, while speaking to <strong>Fred Pessaro<\/strong> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creem.com\/fresh-creem\/john-hinckley-jr-profile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">CREEM<\/a>, he talked about a show he had booked in Brooklyn that quickly sold out, but the venue canceled citing security reasons while issuing a statement speaking \u201cabout mental health and possible atonement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\">\u201cI did have, and still have, notions of playing some live dates, but I\u2019ve been met with resistance. I\u2019ve had three shows canceled in the past few months\u2014it was just really a big disappointment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">In March of this year, he was set to have a concert in Connecticut on the 30th, the anniversary of the shooting, at \u201cone of Connecticut\u2019s newest concert venues.\u201d However, he announced in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JohnHinckley20\/status\/1767632980149768637\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">post<\/a> that the concert was postponed.
