At least, that\u2019s according to <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/amazon-com\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/amazon-com\/\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">Amazon<\/a> CEO Andy Jassy.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Out of all of the tech giant\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.jobs\/content\/en\/our-workplace\/leadership-principles\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.amazon.jobs\/content\/en\/our-workplace\/leadership-principles\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\">16 leadership principles<\/a> penned by its founder Jeff Bezos, Jassy said that always being eager to learn more is the one that has separated those around him who have \u201cgrown their career substantially versus those that stayed stagnant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to be ravenous and hungry to find ways to learn,\u201d the 56-year-old Amazon veteran said last week in a company <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/youtube\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/youtube\/\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second you think there\u2019s little left for you to learn is the second that you are unwinding as an individual and as a learning professional.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p><iframe title=\"&quot;Learn and Be Curious&quot; Leadership Principle Explained by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wAmjpFwlfzM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The world of work is constantly changing\u2014so too must you<\/h2>\n<p>As Jassy noted, maintaining the mindset that you don\u2019t know everything is \u201cnot easy to do\u201d. It\u2019s more common to assume that once you\u2019ve studied, honed your craft and climbed the ranks, it\u2019s now your turn to impart knowledge onto others.<\/p>\n<p>But actually, the world of work is always being reimagined\u2014think back to how managers had to adapt to leading from home during the pandemic, and now <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/06\/04\/anthropics-chief-of-staff-avital-balwit-ai-remote-work\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/06\/04\/anthropics-chief-of-staff-avital-balwit-ai-remote-work\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">artificial intelligence is coming<\/a> to shake most sectors up even more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if you spent many months or years learning a certain area, it may flip upside down very quickly,\u201d Jassy, who has climbed Amazon\u2019s ranks over the course of two decades, said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of that feeling threatening and scary, you have to think about that as being part of the fun of what you do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to caution that lots of professionals are \u201cterrific\u201d about speaking about how they\u2019re going to adapt to industry changes, but then either fall back into the old ways of doing things or fail to attempt implementing the changes at all.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To avoid falling into the trap of talking the talk and not walking it, Jassy said you have to \u201cboth have a plan on how you\u2019re going to change and then make that change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To make that plan, he advised asking yourself:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What am I doing well?\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s the team doing well?\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>What do we need to get better at?\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cYou have to be honest at looking at a situation and what customers care about,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd you have to be able to self-assess and be self-aware.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTry to get better, even a little bit better, every single day, every single week that you come into work.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Leaders agree on the importance of learning<\/h2>\n<p>Jassy isn\u2019t alone in thinking that learning is the key to not stagnating at work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shaid Shah, the global president of the global food and pet care giant Mars Food &amp; Nutrition, previously told <em>Fortune<\/em> that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/01\/20\/mars-shaid-shah-promotion-career-advice\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/01\/20\/mars-shaid-shah-promotion-career-advice\/\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">career success is more than just hierarchy<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about acquiring the experiences that you need to realize your ambition, to realize what makes you happy, what makes you tick, what inspires you to get out of bed every day,\u201d explained Shah, who steadily climbed the ranks from sales director to the helm of Mars Food &amp; Nutrition department.<\/p>\n<p>Barack Obama\u2019s former speechwriter Aneesh Raman echoed that workers should forgo titles completely to focus on skills development\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/03\/18\/barack-obama-speechwriter-career-advice-framework-success-skills\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=advanced_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/03\/18\/barack-obama-speechwriter-career-advice-framework-success-skills\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=advanced_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">until you reach 35-years-old<\/a>, at least.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the time to find out what you\u2019re excited about, what you\u2019re good at, and what you want to get better at,\u201d Raman said.<\/p>\n<p>Even 20-time Grand Slam winner <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/06\/11\/roger-federer-advice-dartmouth-commencement-address\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/06\/11\/roger-federer-advice-dartmouth-commencement-address\/?utm_source=search&amp;utm_medium=suggested_search&amp;utm_campaign=search_link_clicks\" class=\"sc-82aca549-0 klXAci\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger Federer credited his success<\/a> to constantly improving his technique, studying his opponents and learning new ways to beat them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t get where I got on pure talent alone.
