Jack Black<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>announced that he was canceling the rest of Tenacious D\u2019s tour after his bandmate\u00a0Kyle Gass\u00a0<\/strong>made a joke about the assassination attempt on former President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>. While the comedy duo were performing in Sydney, Australia, Kyle made light of the incident during the band\u2019s set on Sunday, July 14. Jack, 54, announced that \u201ccreative plans are on hold.\u201d<\/p>\n

During their Sydney concert, it also marked Kyle\u2019s 64th birthday. While a cake was brought out on stage, Jack encouraged his bandmate to \u201cmake a wish.\u201d The guitarist responded by making a joke about the shooting. \u201cDon\u2019t miss Trump next time,\u201d he said. It did not seem to be something that had been rehearsed.<\/p>\n

Jack released his statement, canceling the tour, on Instagram two days later. \u201cI was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,\u201d he wrote. \u201cAfter much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kage received much backlash for the comment on social media. Conservative Australian Senator\u00a0Ralph Babet\u00a0<\/strong>released a statement<\/a> calling for the band to be deported. \u201cTo advocate and or wish for the assassination of a President is egregious, disgusting, filthy, evil, and not acceptable in any way, shape or form,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While most of the jokes usually avoid political content, The D have touched on politics a bit in their music (see: \u201cThe Government Totally Sucks<\/a>\u201c), and they are scheduled to perform a series of concerts in the fall, encouraging fans to go out to vote. All proceeds are set to benefit Rock the Vote<\/a>. It\u2019s unclear if the shows will go on as planned.<\/p>\n

Jables participated in a fundraising event to endorse President\u00a0Joe Biden<\/strong><\/a> back in June. He sported American flag overalls and gave a rousing speech<\/a> in support of him. \u201cWhen Democracy is at stake, Jack Black answers the call,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
