Amazon Prime Day<\/a> usually advertises a number of discounts on video games and gaming gear, and this year\u2019s event is no exception. Per usual, though, most of those offers aren\u2019t all that good. To help you avoid wasting your cash, we\u2019ve sifted through the sale and picked out the best Prime Day gaming deals that are actually worth your attention below.<\/p>\n In general, the selection isn\u2019t as vast as what we\u2019ll see around Black Friday, but we\u2019ve still found lower-than-usual prices on a handful of well-reviewed games for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X\/S and Nintendo Switch. There are also some decent deals on gaming mice<\/a>, headsets<\/a>, laptops<\/a> and other accessories we\u2019ve tested and can recommend.<\/p>\n As a reminder, Prime Day runs through July 17, and you\u2019ll need to be a Prime member to access most (but not all) of the discounts. We\u2019ll update this roundup over the course of the sale if prices change or more noteworthy deals pop up. If you have no interest at shopping at Amazon, note that some of these deals may be available at other retailers as well.<\/p>\n Square Enix<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The action-RPG <\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is down to $55 for Prime Day. The digital version fell a <\/a> earlier a couple months ago, but this matches the best price we\u2019ve seen for a physical copy. Since it only came out in February, the game normally retails for $70. This \u201cAmazon Edition\u201d also comes with a PS5 controller skin in the box.<\/p>\n We gave Rebirth<\/em> a <\/a> earlier this year, and it\u2019s one of the <\/a> of 2024 overall. You need to have <\/a> \u2014 and ideally, the <\/a> \u2014 to fully understand its plot, but it\u2019s loaded with things to do, and its combat system remains a rush. You could do much worse if you\u2019re looking for a mammoth RPG you can sink well over a hundred hours into. Just be aware that it is very much the second chapter in a planned trilogy, and we\u2019ll inevitably see deeper discounts as time goes on.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $55 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Square Enix<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n In other Final Fantasy<\/em> deals, last year\u2019s <\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is also on sale for $30. That ties its lowest price to date. This is another action-RPG, but it\u2019s altogether more straightforward than Rebirth<\/em>: You don\u2019t have to come in with any prior knowledge to get into its story, while its hack-and-slash combat should be easy for anyone to pick up. Think of it like a cross between the gameplay of God of War <\/em>and the tone of Game of Thrones<\/em>. It can get bogged down in aimless side quests, but its high points are a rush; if you\u2019d like a game where giant demigods <\/a> into one another, it should be a good time. Note that this one is eventually getting <\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $30 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Nintendo<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The charming 2D platformer <\/em><\/a> is on sale for $48, which is $12 off. While that\u2019s not an all-time low, it\u2019s larger than most of the deals we\u2019ve seen since the game arrived last October, and Nintendo is famously stingy about discounting its first-party fare.<\/p>\n Wonder<\/em> was one of <\/a>, blending inch-perfect controls with a nearly overwhelming array of level ideas. It\u2019s less focused than the best games in the Mario<\/em> canon, but it\u2019s fun, and some of its gimmicks <\/a>. It\u2019s a good one for younger players as well, though there are better Mario<\/em> games on the Switch if you <\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $48 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Here\u2019s one for fighting game fans: The PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S versions of Tekken 8<\/em><\/a> are each on sale for $45.<\/p>\n This is another one of 2024\u2019s highest-rated<\/a> games. It may not be quite<\/em> as accessible for complete beginners as Street Fighter 6<\/em><\/a>, but it\u2019s certainly not impenetrable, and its battles are thrilling once you start plumbing the (extensive) mechanical depths of its 30+ characters. Plus, two of those characters<\/a> are big silly bears<\/a> \u2014 and honestly, you can\u2019t beat that. If you\u2019ve thinking about getting into a fighting game\u00a0<\/em>anyway, this deal should lessen the risk.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $45 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n SEGA<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The tactical RPG <\/em><\/a> is down to $35, which is the lowest price we\u2019ve seen for the PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S editions. The Switch copy is available for the same price, though we\u2019ve seen that version go for $5 less a few times before. Engadget\u2019s Sam Rutherford called this game a \u201cmust-play for tactics fans\u201d <\/a> this past March. Its narrative may lean too hard on fantasy RPG tropes, but its battle system should scratch the strategy itch for those who pine for games like Fire Emblem<\/em>, Final Fantasy Tactics<\/em> or (especially) <\/em><\/a>. It also looks gorgeous, which makes sense given that this is the studio behind cult favorites <\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and <\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n There are a few other decent Prime Day deals for RPG fans, too, including <\/em><\/a> for $35, <\/em><\/a> for $30, <\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>for $20 ($25 on Switch) and the <\/a> <\/em><\/a> for $35. The gaming mouse has normally retailed for $50 over the past year.<\/p>\n We\u2019re working on a big overhaul to our gaming mouse buying guide, but we plan to keep the Basilisk V3 as a top pick for those who want a more ergonomically shaped wired model. Its sturdy frame should be comfortable for most grip types and all but the smallest of hands. It comes with 11 customizable buttons, and its scroll wheel supports a faster free-spinning mode and side-to-side scrolling. It has no issues with tracking accuracy, either. That said, it\u2019s fairly hefty at 100 grams, so it\u2019s not ideal for fast-twitch shooter games. That scroll wheel is on the noisier side, too. Still, it\u2019s a great value if you don\u2019t need to go wireless.<\/p>\n If you do <\/em>want a wireless gaming mouse and don\u2019t want to spend a ton, the Razer Basilisk V3 X HyperSpeed<\/a> has the same shape and a quieter scroll wheel. It\u2019s now on sale for $59, which is the lowest price we\u2019ve seen and about $5 less than usual. It requires a AA battery for power, though, so it\u2019s even heavier at 115 grams. It uses less durable mechanical switches, too, and its scroll wheel lacks the left-right tilt and free-scrolling functionality.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $45 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Photo by Jeff Dunn \/ Engadget<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The <\/a> is available for $50, which is about $25 off the average street price we\u2019ve tracked in recent months. This is the top MMO pick in our gaming mouse buying guide. It has 12 well-spaced side buttons that make it easier to play RPGs like Final Fantasy XIV<\/em> or Baldur\u2019s Gate<\/em> 3<\/em>, which often have you navigate several \u201chotbars\u201d of commands at a time. Its rounded, gently sloped shape should fit most claw and palm grippers well, and its sensor is accurate enough for the games it\u2019s designed to play. It\u2019s not lightweight (107 grams), though, and its cable is somewhat stiff. The scroll wheel could stand to be firmer as well. But there aren\u2019t a ton of great options in this niche nowadays; if you can live with a wire on your desk, it\u2019s hard to do better for $50.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $50 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Photo by Mat Smith \/ Engadget<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The <\/a> mobile game controller is back down to $70 for Prime Day, which is a $30 discount. This offer applies to USB-C and <\/a> of the device, in both the standard black and PlayStation-branded white colorways.<\/p>\n We gave the Backbone a <\/a> a few years back. It\u2019s more cramped than a traditional gamepad, and the way Backbone nudges you toward its app and (unnecessary) <\/a> can be annoying. But it\u2019s built well, it has all the inputs needed to play modern games \u2014 including clickable joysticks and pressure-sensitive triggers \u2014 and it works instantly with just about any game that supports controller input. While it\u2019s not the only device along these lines, it\u2019s a comfortable option if you\u2019re looking to stream console games over the cloud, <\/a> or just play more involved mobile fare.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $70 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n WD<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n It\u2019s a drag, but the only way to fully expand the storage of an Xbox Series X\/S is to use a proprietary expansion card. (You can technically use a standard <\/a> as well, but you\u2019ll only be able to store current-gen games on it, not play them.) Right now, there are only two official expansion cards available, but both of them are on sale for Prime Day.<\/p>\n The <\/a>, for one, is down to $64 for a 512GB model and $120 for a <\/a>. The former is $15 off and an all-time low, while the latter is a $30 discount.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $64 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Photo by Jeff Dunn \/ Engadget<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n If you need more than 1TB of space, meanwhile, the 2TB version of Seagate\u2019s Storage Expansion Card for Xbox<\/a> is your only option. It\u2019s currently discounted to $230. That\u2019s not the lowest price we\u2019ve seen, but it\u2019s $20 below the device\u2019s average street price over the last few months. The 1TB version of this card is also on sale for $130, but there\u2019s little reason to get that when WD\u2019s model is $10 cheaper and offers virtually identical performance.<\/p>\n To be clear, both Xbox cards are hugely overpriced compared to more traditional SSDs<\/a>. Still, they\u2019re just as fast as the Xbox\u2019s internal storage, and setting them up is as simple as plugging them into the console\u2019s expansion slot \u2014 no extra steps required<\/a>. These deals should make them a tiny bit easier to stomach if you\u2019re running out of room on your Series X\/S and don\u2019t want to constantly delete and reinstall games to make space.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $230 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Photo by Jeff Dunn \/ Engadget<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n If you need a microSD card for your Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck, the 1TB Lexar Professional 1066x<\/a> is worth considering at $77. That\u2019s within a dollar of the card\u2019s lowest price to date and about $13 below its average street price as of late. While this isn\u2019t a formal recommendation in our microSD card buying guide<\/a>, its transfer speeds aren’t terribly far off our top picks, so it\u2019s a decent value when it\u2019s discounted to this extent.<\/p>\n The 1.5TB SanDisk Ultra<\/a> is also worth noting at $88, which is a $22 discount and an all-time low. This one is<\/em> noticeably slower than the 1066x and our top picks, but the difference won\u2019t be as noticeable on the Switch \u2014 which limits<\/a> all microSD cards to UHS-I speeds \u2014 as it would be in, say, a camera. This is also just a wild price for a card with this much space.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $77 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Photo by Jeff Dunn \/ Engadget<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The Corsair Virtuoso Pro<\/a> is available for $140, which is a new low and $10 below the typical sale price we\u2019ve seen in recent months. This pair is an honorable mention in our guide to the best gaming headsets<\/a>. It\u2019s one of the few options with an open-back design, which helps games sound wider, more spacious and ultimately more enveloping than most of its peers. Its mic is decidedly less muffled than that of our top pick, the Astro A40 TR<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n It\u2019s still not as clear or detailed as the best \u201cnormal\u201d open-back headphones in this price range (such as the Sennheiser HD 560S<\/a>), its headband adjustment mechanism feels flimsy and its mic isn\u2019t detachable on its own. And since the open-back design lets in lots of outside noise, it won\u2019t be ideal if you often play in a noisy room. The A40 TR would still be our first choice if you want a dedicated gaming headset that focuses on audio quality. But the Virtuoso Pro is a good alternative at this price if you\u2019re often in party chat.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $140 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Photo by Jeff Dunn \/ Engadget<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The Logitech G535 Lightspeed<\/a> is down to $87. This is another honorable mention in our gaming headsets guide, as we like its relatively balanced sound and lightweight, breathable design. It still has issues: There\u2019s no Xbox support, it lacks deep bass and its mic makes voices sound fairly thin. You have to crank the volume a bit for it to reach a listenable level as well. But if you want a wireless headset for less than $100, it\u2019s a solid value.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $87 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Logitech<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The higher-end Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed<\/a>, meanwhile, is also on sale for $199. That\u2019s another all-time low and a $50 discount. The G Pro X 2 isn\u2019t a top pick in our gaming headset guide, but it\u2019s worth a look when it\u2019s discounted to this extent. It can\u2019t match the audio or mic quality of our favorite wireless headset, the Audeze Maxwell<\/a>, but its warm profile isn\u2019t bad, it\u2019s much lighter on the head and it gets close to 90 hours of battery life at moderate volumes. It can also connect over Bluetooth or a 3.5mm cable, though it can\u2019t connect to more than one device at a time, and its wireless dongle doesn\u2019t work with Xbox.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $199 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Alienware<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Moving over to gaming laptops, the <\/a> is available for $2,380 for a config with a 165Hz QHD+ (2,560 x 1,600) display, an Intel Core i9-14900HX chip, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU. That\u2019s not cheap, but it\u2019s $420 off the device\u2019s standard price and the first major discount we could find for this model.<\/p>\n The m18 R2 is the 2024 version of the top 18-inch pick in our guide to the <\/a>. As the phrase \u201c18-inch gaming laptop\u201d would imply, this is a big boy, measuring about 1.05 inches thick and weighing nearly nine pounds. Combined with a battery that lasts about 4-5 hours when you aren\u2019t <\/em>gaming, it\u2019s much more of a desktop replacement than something truly portable. That said, it\u2019s built well for what it is, with a sturdy aluminum lid, a smooth hinge and a wide port selection. Most importantly, it can easily blow through modern AAA games at higher settings in 1080p or 1440p. Its memory and storage are both user-upgradeable, too, though its display could stand to be a bit brighter. Just note that this config has a membrane keyboard \u2014 Dell also sells <\/a> with low-profile mechanical keys \u2014 and, like most notebooks in this class, it can get fairly hot and loud when stressed.<\/p>\n If you want to spend a little less, <\/a> with a Core i7-14700HX chip, 16GB of RAM and an RTX 4070 GPU is on sale for $1,880. That\u2019s another all-time low and about $385 below the device\u2019s average street price as of late. This version will have a harder time with more demanding fare than the 4080 model, though, particularly when playing in 1440p. So, you may need to tone down the graphical settings in certain games to reach a consistently high frame rate. It technically has fewer storage upgrade slots as well.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n $2,380 at Amazon<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n Will Lipman Photography for Engadget<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The Razer Blade 15<\/a> with an Intel Core i7-13800H processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU is on sale for $1,600. That\u2019s the lowest price we\u2019ve seen for this config and $100 less than its street price over the past couple of months. This model includes a 15.6-inch, 16:9 display with 1440p resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate.<\/p>\n The Blade 15 is the \u201cpremium\u201d recommendation in our gaming laptop buying guide. It\u2019s more than a year old at this point, and even with this discount, it\u2019s not as good of a value as our overall top pick (the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14<\/a>, which isn\u2019t a part of Amazon\u2019s sale). Instead, you\u2019d get a Blade for its design, which is marked by clean lines and a sturdy, all-black aluminum finish. (It is a fingerprint magnet, though.) This config is powerful enough to play modern AAA games in 1080p or 1440p beyond that \u2014 again, the latter may require you to tune down settings in certain games to see very high frame rates \u2014 and it comes with a healthy array of ports. You can also upgrade its storage and memory. It can get hot, and its battery life isn\u2019t great, but it\u2019s at least a little more appealing at this price if you want a 15-inch gaming machine and are particular about your notebook\u2019s look and feel.<\/p>\nBest Prime Day video game deals<\/h2>\n
