This is where OpenAI believes their current GPT4 models are at currently<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tier 2<\/strong> \u2013 Reasoners, human-level problem solving (described as having the reasoning capabilities of a person with a PhD but without any tools)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tier 3<\/strong> \u2013 Agents, systems that can take actions on a user\u2019s behalf.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tier 4<\/strong> \u2013 Innovators, AI that can come up with its own innovations<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tier 5<\/strong> \u2013 Organizations, AI that can do the work of an entire organization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/ai-what-is-artificial-general-intelligence-agi\/\">AGI is the long-term goal<\/a> for many companies involved in the AI arms race, <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/mark-zuckerberg-meta-wants-to-create-artificial-general-intelligence\/\">including Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s Meta<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While OpenAI believes they are currently at level 1, their spokesperson said they are on the cusp of reaching the second level, \u201cReasoners\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>During the all-hands meeting where the new levels were announced, OpenAI also demonstrated some new research centered around its GPT4 model, which they believe shows skills approaching human-level reasoning.<\/p>\n<p><noscript><iframe title=\"How Sam Altman Defines AGI\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vd9GxG5Qn-k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>The levels, which were designed by OpenAI\u2019s senior leadership team and executives, are not considered final. As the organization gathers feedback and additional input from its employees and investors, it may alter the levels and definitions over time to better fit the broader understanding of AI progress.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI\u2019s stated mission is to develop \u201csafe and beneficial artificial general intelligence for the benefit of humanity\u201d, however, earlier this year the company effectively dissolved its safety-oriented Superalignment group after the <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/openai-co-founder-ilya-sutskever-leaves-chatgpt-maker\/\">departure of Chief Scientist and co-founder Ilya Sutskever<\/a>.
