Normal people lean on their friends for support, which is exactly what the Twister<\/em> actor wants to clarify.<\/p>\n In 2022, Daisy Edgar-Jones<\/strong><\/a>, 26, and Paul Mescal<\/strong><\/a>, 28, found themselves in the center of attention when a photo from Met Gala emerged, showing Mescal allegedly gazing at Edgar-Jones from a distance while standing with his then-girlfriend, singer Phoebe Bridgers<\/strong><\/a>, 29. This sparked speculation that Mescal secretly had feelings for his former co-star.<\/p>\n Calling the buzz surrounding the image \u201cwild,\u201d she set the record straight on what really went down that night.<\/p>\n \u201cI was having kind of an out-of-body experience with the Met Gala,\u201d Daisy explained in a video for\u00a0WhoWhatWear<\/a> published July 11. \u201cSo Paul had said like, \u2018Come and meet me and we could do it together.\u2019 Because we were such good friends and it [would be] cool to go together.\u201d<\/p>\n The timing didn\u2019t align, as Mescal arrived \u201cquite late\u201d to the event.<\/p>\n The actress recalled completing a Vogue<\/em> interview while waiting for Mescal to arrive. So, according to Edgar-Jones, what fans saw in the picture was simply a friend recognizing another friend when Mescal arrived with Bridgers.<\/p>\n \u201cFinally, Paul came with Phoebs and we were waiting and did the carpet together. And honestly, he\u2019s my pal, so he was probably just being like, \u2018There she is!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n In the interview, she admitted her concern over the picture wasn\u2019t even the over-the-top theorizing that came from it but rather her chosen stance.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was still early days, so I didn\u2019t know how to pose on a red carpet,\u201d the\u00a0Twisters<\/em>\u00a0actress continued. \u201cSo, what I think is most tragic about this is the deep leg cross that I kind of committed to in every photo.\u201d<\/p>\n Although Daisy didn\u2019t mind explaining the context of the photo to squash any lingering rumors, Paul has been vocal about feelings on the speculative nature of fans and the media.<\/p>\n \u201cI definitely feel the temptation to say the status of my whatever \u2014 that will always be there,\u201d Mescal\u00a0told\u00a0Vanity Fair\u00a0<\/i><\/a>at the time, noting he was \u201creally mad and upset\u201d about speculation. \u201cThe temptation still exists to be like, \u2018Shut the f\u2013k up.
