{"id":242547,"date":"2024-07-12T09:21:16","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T09:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/12\/star-wars-outlaws-the-huge-map-size-and-scope-of-the-game\/"},"modified":"2025-06-25T17:14:52","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T17:14:52","slug":"star-wars-outlaws-the-huge-map-size-and-scope-of-the-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michigandigitalnews.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/12\/star-wars-outlaws-the-huge-map-size-and-scope-of-the-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Wars Outlaws: The huge map size and scope of the game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/star-wars-outlaws-everything-we-know-900x506.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Star Wars Outlaws will be the first truly open-world Star Wars game, and Massive Entertainment\u2019s creative director Julian Gerighty has revealed some details on the map size and scope of the game.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with IGN, Gerighty revealed the planet where players start their <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/star-wars-outlaws-release-date-trailers-platforms-and-everything-we-know\/\">Star Wars Outlaws<\/a> adventure is Toshara and isn\u2019t actually a planet, it\u2019s a moon, and traveling across the whole surface takes \u201cfour or five minutes nonstop\u201d if you hop on a Speeder.<\/p>\n<p>He compared it to one of Ubisoft\u2019s other open worlds to provide context, comparing the planet to \u201ctwo or three\u201d zones from Assassin\u2019s Creed Odyssey.<\/p>\n<p>He said that four or five minutes \u201cdoesn\u2019t sound like a lot, but once you\u2019re committed it\u2019s a fairly large amount and you are always going to be distracted.\u201d The game\u2019s director, Mathias Karlson, described the \u201cliving world system\u201d that helped make their previous open-world games, The Division and The Division 2, a success, as key to making Star Wars Outlaws engaging, especially if traversing long distances.<\/p>\n<h2>Star Wars Outlaws\u2019 maps will not be big for the sake of it<\/h2>\n<p>Greighty also discussed the kind of emergent gameplay that will come out of this living world system, saying \u201cEvery\u00a0two, three minutes there\u2019ll be something that\u2019s happening, whether it\u2019s an ambush or the empire arresting some civilians or getting into combat with some criminal syndicates. And it\u2019s up to you whether you want to engage or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Massive Entertainment has always had a clear plan for Outlaws that they are hoping helps them avoid open-world pitfalls like bloat. <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/star-wars-outlaws-game-length-campaign-open-world-hours-complete\/\">They have designed the world to favor variety over size<\/a>: \u201cSo we don\u2019t want things to be just big for big sake. We need it to be contained, always fun, always proposing different activities,\u201d Gerighty said.<\/p>\n<p>If the studio can live up to these promises, Outlaws could truly be the Star Wars scoundrel story we\u2019ve longed for.
