Ridley Scott<\/strong>\u2018s Gladiator<\/em> sequel<\/a> is starring fan-favorite actors. Alongside Denzel Washington<\/strong><\/a>, Pedro Pascal<\/strong> <\/a>and Joseph Quinn<\/strong><\/a>, Paul Mescal<\/strong><\/a> is playing the main role of Lucius. In the original 2000 movie, Lucius \u2014 the son of Lucilla \u2014 was a child. Gladiator II<\/em> reintroduces him as the former heir to the empire, and he assumes his mother is dead since he hasn\u2019t seen her in 15 years. Since Paul is playing the adult version of Lucius, moviegoers are wondering what happened to the original actor who had the role: Spencer Treat Clark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Where Is Spencer Treat Clark?<\/h2>\n

Spencer is still working as an actor. Since starring in Gladiator<\/em>, he went on to appear in Unbreakable, Glass<\/em> and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.<\/em> The Columbia University grad has also starred in recurring television roles, such as in Animal Kingdom<\/em> and Manhunt<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Why Did Paul Mescal Replace Spencer in \u2018Gladiator II\u2019?<\/h2>\n

Neither Paul nor Spencer have spoken out about the casting for Gladiator II<\/em>. However, Ridley sat down with Total Film<\/em> <\/a>about the reason why he specifically chose Paul to play the role of Lucius.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan I see Paul Mescal being as big as Russell Crowe<\/strong><\/a>? For sure,\u201d Ridley told the outlet in October 2023, referring to his lead for the original Gladiator<\/em>. Ridley then pointed out that he watched Paul\u2019s show, which convinced him to cast the actor. \u201cI watched Normal People<\/em>. It\u2019s not my kind of show but I saw four episodes in a row \u2013 boom, boom, boom. I was thinking, \u2018Who the hell is this Paul Mescal?\u2019 And then I watched the whole series. And then, suddenly, Gladiator II<\/em> came up, because the script was working pretty well. And I kept thinking about Paul. And that was it.\u201d<\/p>\n
