Ben Affleck<\/strong><\/a> and Jennifer Garner<\/strong><\/a> have raised a strong and steadfast woman.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, their eldest daughter Violet Affleck<\/strong><\/a>, 18, spoke to the L.A. Go Violet! \ud83d\ude37\ud83c\udf49 pic.twitter.com\/B8PN3jl5F6<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Joaqu\u00edn Beltr\u00e1n for a Free Palestine (@joaquinlife) July 10, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n In her plea, she evoked a personal experience stating she contracted a post-viral condition in 2019. \u201cI\u2019m okay now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses,\u201d she said. \u201cThe COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharp relief.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOne in 10 infections leads to long COVID, which is a devastating neurological [and] cardiovascular illness that can take away people\u2019s ability to work, move, see, and even think,\u201d Violet continued, pointing out that the condition affects people who are unhoused or generally more vulnerable than the rest of the population.<\/p>\n \u201c[Long COVID] stands to exacerbate our homelessness crisis as well as the suffering of many people in our city. It hits communities of color, disabled people, elderly people, trans people, anyone in a public-facing essential job the hardest.\u201d<\/p>\n The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>\u00a0describes\u00a0long COVID as a \u201cchronic condition\u201d that an individual has an increasing risk of contracting each time they are infected with the COVID-19 virus.<\/p>\n She then clearly introduced a set of propositions that could \u201cconfront the long COVID crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI demand masks availability, air filtration, and Far-UVC light in government facilities\u2014including jails and detention centers\u2014and mask mandates in county medical facilities,\u201d she said. \u201cYou must expand the availability of high-quality free tests and treatment and, most importantly, the county must oppose mask bans for any reason.\u201d<\/p>\n BREAKING: Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass says she is discussing a mask ban for protests with the City Attorney. pic.twitter.com\/GxpgUuVneQ<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Dr. Lucky Tran (@luckytran) June 25, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Despite increasing cases of COVID-19 in the city, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass<\/strong>\u00a0announced that city officials are looking into banning masks at public demonstrations. Other cities like New York are also considering mask bans within their own jurisdictions, and Republican lawmakers in North Carolina restricted the wearing of masks<\/a>\u00a0in public with a controversial bill passed in June.<\/p>\n Governing authorities must resist \u201cmask bans,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201c[Mask bans] do not keep us safer. They make vulnerable members of our community less safe and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n
