Does Mother always know best? Both Academy Award winners Chastain and Hathaway want to know as they tease a new trailer for their thriller Mother\u2019s Instinct.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Earlier today, Anne Hathaway<\/strong><\/a> and Jessica Chastain<\/strong><\/a> in a joint collab post on Instagram<\/a> shared a clip of their new movie with the caption, \u201cDoes Mother always know best? Come see us pals tackle that question and each other in #MothersInstinct Coming to select theatres in the US on July 26th! \ud83d\udc6f\u200d\u2640\ufe0f\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSomething is broken inside of me, and I need you,\u201d Hathaway asks Chastain at one point in the trailer, setting up a turning point for the characters they play.<\/p>\n

With the look and feel of an Alfred Hitchcock thriller, the 47-year-old Good Nurse<\/em> actor who plays Alice battles with the 41-year-old Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em> actor\u2019s Celine in a cat-and-mouse game where their sisterly bond unravels and the darker side of their maternal instincts runs riot.<\/p>\n

The movie is adapted from Barbara Abel<\/strong>\u2018s novel, Mothers\u2019 Instinct <\/em>or more accurately Derri\u00e8re la Haine<\/em>. And like the novel, the movie Mother\u2019s Instinct<\/em> is a dark, twisty domestic thriller in which the bond between two women\u2014best friends, next-door neighbors and mothers\u2014mutates in dangerous and deadly ways in the wake of a tragic accident involving one of their sons accidentally falling out of a second-floor window. The film transforms two 1960s housewives who have their picturesque families and homes into frenzied women torn apart by grief, guilt, and paranoia.<\/p>\n

This film marks \u00a0French cinematographer Beno\u00eet Delhomme\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0directorial debut after years of work as a Director of Photography (DP). Previous credits include the films Lawless<\/em>,\u00a0A Most Wanted Man<\/em>,\u00a0The Theory of Everything<\/em>,\u00a0At Eternity\u2019s Gate<\/em>,\u00a0Minamata<\/em>, and\u00a0Lady Chatterley\u2019s Lover.<\/em><\/p>\n

Delhomme was a late replacement for director Olivier Masset-Depasse<\/strong>, who certainly did have a handle on the material. Masset-Depasse won a record-breaking nine Magritte Awards from the Belgian Academy including Best Film and Best Director for the original film Duelles<\/em>, from which Mothers\u2019 Instinct<\/em> has been closely adapted.<\/p>\n

The film already opened in Europe in March earlier this year. For the U.S., Mother\u2019s Instinct <\/em>opens in select theaters on July 26 and on digital on August 13.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
