After almost three years, Alec Baldwin\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> jury selection for the accidental shooting on the Rust<\/em> set that led to the fatal death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins<\/a><\/strong> began today on Tuesd<\/span>ay, July 9.<\/span><\/p>\n In 2021, while filming <\/span>Rust<\/span><\/i> \u2014 which has not been released \u2014 the 66-year-old actor was rehearsing a scene that required a Colt .45 revolver \u2013 as a prop \u2013 when the gun ended up firing and ultimately killing the 42-year-old crew member.<\/span><\/p>\n The news left the <\/span>Beetlejuice<\/span><\/i> actor in shock as he shared on <\/span>social media<\/span><\/a> the following day<\/span>, \u201cThere are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours\u2026 I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Alec ultimately was charged with involuntary manslaughter by a grand jury in January, but was later dropped in April. <\/span>The trial is set to take place on July 19.<\/span><\/p>\n During an interview with <\/span>ABC News<\/span><\/i><\/a> in 2021, he shared, \u201cI would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them. Never\u2026Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn\u2019t even supposed to be on the property.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Since her passing, he commemorated exactly a year after the horrific day. He shared a snap on Instagram of Halyna and wrote, \u201cOne year ago today\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The on-set armor member, Hannah Gutierrez Reed<\/a><\/strong>, was sentenced to 18 months in prison as a result of being <\/span>found guilty <\/span><\/a>for involuntary manslaughter<\/span>. \u201cI did not hear you take accountability in your allocution. You said you were sorry, but not (that) you were sorry for what you did\u2026You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon\u2026But for you, Ms. Hutchins would be alive, a husband would have his partner, and a little boy would have his mother,\u201d the New Mexico Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer announced.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
