Few actors have had as successful or as prolific a career as <\/span>Tom Hanks<\/a><\/strong>. The <\/span>Cast Away\u00a0<\/em>actor has starred in numerous beloved movies and has won two Best Actor Oscars for his roles in <\/span>Philadelphia\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<\/span>Forrest Gump<\/em>. While he\u2019s incredibly hard-working, Tom\u2019s also made it known that he\u2019s a family man! The actor had two children with his first wife, <\/span>Samantha Lewes <\/strong>(who sadly died in 2002) before they divorced in 1987, and two more with his current wife, <\/span>Rita Wilson<\/a>, <\/strong>to whom he\u2019s been married since 1988. Tom celebrated his 68th birthday on July 9, 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023, Tom got a rare chance to work alongside one of his children. His youngest son, Truman, plays a younger version of Tom\u2019s character in A Man Called Otto<\/em>. At the time, there was a recent discussion of nepotism in Hollywood. \u201cI think my kids are all like Renaissance artists, you know? [They] are good at whatever they choose to be,\u201d Tom said, per PEOPLE<\/a><\/em>. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to have a passion, you\u2019ve got to have a drive. And yeah, our household has existed in the company town that is Los Angeles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tom said that the director suggested that Truman play the younger version of his character \u201cbecause we resemble each other a lot. But the final analysis is the person has to show up on the day and hit the marks, and tell the truth. Only he can make that decision. It was totally up to him.\u201d Tom earlier suggested that Hollywood was a \u201cfamily business\u201d and that if the Hanks were involved in \u201ca plumbing-supply business or if we ran the florist shop down the street, the whole family would be putting in time at some point, even if it was just inventory at the end of the year,\u201d per PEOPLE<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Tom and Samantha welcomed their son\u00a0Colin, <\/strong>46, into the world in 1977 before getting married in 1978. Colin really is the spitting image of his father. Colin has followed in his dad\u2019s footsteps to become a successful actor in his own right. His debut role was in the 1996 musical comedy That Thing You Do<\/em>, which his old man wrote and directed. Two of Colin\u2019s biggest films are King Kong\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Orange County<\/em>. Most recently, he had a part in the comedy\u00a0How It Ends<\/em> alongside hilarious talents like\u00a0Whitney Cummings\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Nick Kroll.\u00a0<\/strong>Other than movies, Colin has also started a family of his own and made Tom a grandfather. Despite building a lengthy resume of his own, Colin has rarely worked with his dad. The 42-year-old did make appearances in some of her dad\u2019s most popular movies when she was young: Forrest Gump<\/em> and\u00a0That Thing You Do<\/em>, according to\u00a0IMDb<\/em><\/a>. but Elizabeth pursued a different creative outlet than acting. She received an English degree from Vassar College and became a writer via Suggest<\/em><\/a>. She publishes under the name E.A. Hanks<\/strong>, and she is working on her debut children\u2019s book Piper Peregrine Vs. The Consortium For Better Thinking<\/em>, according to her bio<\/a>. She\u2019s also worked in journalism for Vanity Fair<\/em> and\u00a0The Huffington Post<\/em>. Her Twitter bio boasts bylines from\u00a0Time, The Guardian,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Tom\u2019s oldest son, with his wife Rita, was born in 1990. Chet<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>33, has embarked on his own entertainment journey, launching a music career in April 2021 with his debut single (under the name \u201cChet Hanx\u201d), \u201cWhite Boy Summer<\/a>.\u201d He released his second song, \u201cDamn,\u201d in June. When his parents were diagnosed with COVID-19 in March 2020, Chet kept fans informed<\/a> and told them that he wasn\u2019t worried and he was confident his parents would be okay.<\/p>\n

While his own mom and dad were some of the first major celebrities to test positive for COVID-19, Chet has recently ousted himself as an anti-vaxxer. He posted an Instagram video<\/a> in August, where he mocked the COVID vaccine. \u201cI never had COVID. They ain\u2019t sticking me with that mothaf**king needle. It\u2019s the mothaf**king flu,\u201d he said. His aversion to the vaccine isn\u2019t the only questionable thing about Chet. Rita gave birth to her younger son in December 1995. Like his older half-brother, Truman,\u00a0<\/strong>28, also bares a striking resemblance to his dad when he was younger. He studied at Stanford University, according to Page Six<\/em><\/a>. He also has a career in film \u2014 appearing on screen in 2023\u2019s A Man Called Otto\u00a0<\/em>and 2020\u2019s News Of The World \u2014<\/em> but Truman stays behind the camera.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s had various jobs in the camera and electrical departments on many major motion pictures, according to his IMDb<\/em><\/a>. Some of the biggest movies he\u2019s worked on include Wrath of Man, Black Widow,\u00a0<\/em>and the upcoming\u00a0West Wide Story<\/em> remake. He\u2019s also been a production assistant on Charlie\u2019s Angels <\/em>and\u00a0The Cloverfield Paradox<\/em>\u00a0and was the cinematographer for a short film called The Ice Queen Society<\/em>.<\/p>\n
