Ariana Grande<\/strong><\/a> is facing backlash from the families of Jeffrey Dahmer<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s victims. The controversy arose after the 31-year-old \u201c7 rings\u201d singer appeared on the \u201cPopcrushed\u201d podcast earlier this month, where she recalled telling a young fan at a Q&A event who would be her dream dinner date.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, you\u2019re so cute. Mom and Dad, is it OK if I give the real answer?\u2019\u201d Ariana recalled asking the child\u2019s parents. \u201cAnd they were like, \u2018Sure, what\u2019s the answer?\u2019 and I was like, \u2018I mean, Jeffrey Dahmer is pretty fascinating. I think I would have loved to have met him. You know, maybe with a third party or someone involved. But I have questions.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Noting that she was \u201cinfatuated\u201d by \u201cserial killers\u201d when she was younger, the \u201cYes, And?\u201d hitmaker also remembered how the fan\u2019s parents reacted to her candid response.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parents were like, \u2018We\u2019ll explain it later, sweetie,\u2019\u201d Ari said. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018I\u2019ll just sing \u2018Problem\u2019 and go home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shirley Hughes<\/strong> reacted to Ariana\u2019s comments during a recent interview with TMZ<\/em><\/a> published on Thursday, June 27. Shirley is the mother of Tony Hughes<\/strong>, whom Jeffrey killed in 1991.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, it seems like she\u2019s sick in her mind,\u201d Shirley told the outlet, referring to Ariana. \u201cIt\u2019s not fancy or funny to say you would have wanted to do dinner with him. It\u2019s also not something you should say to young people, which she says she did.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the outlet, Shirley wants Ariana and the public to know how painful it is for her and the other victims\u2019 families to hear Jeffrey\u2019s name. She also said it was disturbing that the Nickelodeon alum didn\u2019t express any empathy toward the victims and their families during her podcast interview.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Tony\u2019s sister Barbara Hughes told the outlet that she felt Ariana\u2019s comments glamorized Jeffrey, and she wants the \u201cBreak Free\u201d singer to apologize.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey notoriously murdered 17 men and children between 1978 and 1991 and subjected many to cruel torture, such as cannibalism and dismemberment. In 1992, he was sentenced to life behind bars and was beaten to death in prison by inmates in 1994.<\/p>\n

Public fascination about the serial killer grew as his story was adapted into various mediums of popular culture. Multiple films and TV shows were created about Jeffrey, with the most recent production being Ryan Murphy<\/strong>\u2018s 2022 Netflix series Dahmer \u2013 Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story<\/em><\/a>. The families of Jeffrey\u2019s victims called Ryan out for the controversial show. In response, the filmmaker claimed he had reached out to the families for their input but never heard back from anyone.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
