Britney Spears<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and her attorney\u00a0Mathew Rosengart\u00a0<\/strong>have gone their separate ways nearly three years after the celebrity lawyer helped her get out of her conservatorship. The attorney helped the \u201cToxic\u201d singer sort out all the financial details after ending her conservatorship, reaching a settlement with Britney\u2019s father\u00a0Jamie Spears<\/strong> in April. Now that all of the loose ends relating to her controversial conservatorship have been wrapped up, Mathew has parted ways with the popstar to focus on other cases, according to\u00a0CNN<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following the decision, Mathew spoke about how it was an honor to work on the case in a statement to\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt has been an honor to serve as Britney\u2019s litigator, to work with her to achieve her goals in obtaining the court-ordered suspension of her former conservator, followed by restoring her fundamental rights and civil liberties, while continuing to protect her and more recently to extricate her from all outstanding litigation and the byzantine probate court proceedings. As I\u2019ve always said, the credit goes to Britney,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Britney\u2019s decision to hire Mathew marked a win in her conservatorship trial<\/a> in July 2021. As everyone knows, the singer was freed from the conservatorship<\/a> months later in November. After the decision came in, the lawyer confirmed the news to the press outside the courthouse. \u201cJudge Penny decided to agree with Britney Spears, and as of today, effectively immediately \u2014 the conservatorship has been terminated as both her person and estate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mathew Was a Federal Prosecutor<\/h2>\n

Mathew is an attorney for the law firm Greenberg Traurig. He studied at the Boston College Law School, where he graduated cum laude<\/em>. Prior to his work in entertainment and white-collar crime, he was a federal prosecutor. His cases were incredibly varied from \u201cviolent crimes to public corruption,\u201d as the bio on his firm\u2019s website<\/a> states. His \u201cnationally-recognized trial practice includes complex commercial and entertainment litigation.\u201d His bio lists various attorney positions he held for the United States Department of Justice, including a trial attorney for the Justice Department\u2019s Civil and Criminal Divisions and the Criminal Division Campaign Finance Task Force.<\/p>\n

Mathew Won a Defamation Lawsuit for Sean Penn<\/h2>\n

Mathew\u2019s famous clients include Mystic River\u00a0<\/em>star\u00a0Sean Penn.\u00a0<\/strong>Mathew was Sean\u2019s lawyer in a defamation suit against\u00a0Empire\u00a0<\/em>creator\u00a0Lee Daniels.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>When Lee mentioned Sean in a discussion about domestic abuse allegations against\u00a0Empire\u00a0<\/em>star\u00a0Terrence Howard<\/strong> in a 2015 interview with\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter,<\/em> Sean tried to sue the director for $10 million for defamation. Mathew was Sean\u2019s lawyer when the two stars settled with an apology from Lee and a donation to Sean\u2019s charity Community Organized Relief Effort (at the time, called \u201cJ\/P\u00a0HRO\u201d), according to\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mathew Has a Number of Accolades<\/h2>\n

Mathew has been recognized on a number of occasions for his skills as a lawyer. Most recently, he was recognized as a \u201cTop Litigator\u201d and \u201cLeader of Influence\u201d by the\u00a0Los Angeles Business Journal,\u00a0<\/em>on July 12, according to a press release<\/a>. He\u2019s also been named in both\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u2018s \u201cLegal Impact Report<\/a>\u201d and\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s \u201c<\/em>Power Lawyers<\/a>\u201d lists for multiple years. He was named in both publications\u2019 lists in 2021.<\/p>\n

Mathew Has Represented a Ton of Celebrities<\/h2>\n

Mathew has tons of experience in media and entertainment litigation, and it\u2019s only natural that his past clients include a bunch of celebrities. Besides Sean Penn, Mathew has represented\u00a0Winona Ryder,\u00a0<\/strong>NBA player\u00a0Jimmy Butler,\u00a0<\/strong>Shark Tank\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>Daymond John,<\/strong> and that\u2019s only in the past year, according to\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter. <\/a><\/em>Other stars who Mathew represents include\u00a0Steven Spielberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Eddie Vedder,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Keanu Reeves,<\/strong> via\u00a0Variety<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mathew Won a $14 Million Trial Against Gold Circle Films<\/h2>\n

Prior to Britney\u2019s conservator trial, one of Mathew\u2019s most noteworthy cases was in 2019, when he represented the New York hedge fund Sandton Capital in its trial against Gold Circle Films, which has produced movies like Pitch Perfect\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0My Big Fat Greek Wedding<\/em>. The production company had borrowed millions of dollars, and the debt was sold to Sandton. The hedge fund pursued a legal battle in 2015, with Mathew as its representative. A New York Supreme Court judge ruled against Gold Circle, and the production company was found to owe $14.1 million to Sandton, according to\u00a0Variety<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
