The Notebook<\/span><\/i> star Gena Rowlands<\/strong>\u2019 son Nick Cassavetes<\/a><\/strong> has confirmed that his mother has Alzheimer\u2019s disease while speaking with <\/span>Entertainment Weekly <\/span><\/i><\/a>on Tuesday during the film\u2019s 20th anniversary celebration.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI got my mom to play older Allie, and we spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer\u2019s and wanting to be authentic with it, and now, for the last five years, she\u2019s had Alzheimer\u2019s,\u201d added the 65-year-old director.<\/span><\/p>\n The 94-year-old actress played the well known role of old Allie Hamilton in the tear-jerking film who ironically had dementia.\u00a0 Now Nick has revealed that his mother is \u201cin full dementia, and it\u2019s so crazy \u2014 we lived it, she acted it, and now it\u2019s on us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n During the film\u2019s time frame Gena recalled that she chose to play the role of Allie after witnessing her own mother struggle with the disease. \u201cI went through that with my mother, and if Nick hadn\u2019t directed the film, I don\u2019t think I would have gone for it \u2014 it\u2019s just too hard\u2026It was a tough but wonderful movie,\u201d the actress shared to <\/span>\u00a0O Magazine<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Despite the Nicholas Sparks novel being a very heartwrenching storyline, the film has gone on to be an iconic movie for each generation. <\/span>\u201cIt\u2019s always a shock to hear that as much time has gone by as it has, but it makes sense\u2026It seems to have worked, and I\u2019m very proud of it,\u201d the filmmaker told EW<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n The film who starred Ryan Gosling<\/a><\/strong> and Rachel McAdams<\/a><\/strong> has gone such a long way that now it is gaining its own Broadway musical. Rachel shared her thoughts on the upcoming project in an interview with Paul Wontorek for <\/span>The Broadway Show with Tamsen Fadal<\/span><\/i><\/a>. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see it\u2026I think it\u2019s so exciting. To see it take on a whole other life like this, it blows my mind,\u201d she shared. \u201cWe didn\u2019t even know if anyone would see this movie when we were making it, when we were drowning in the rain\u2026There wasn\u2019t rain, they would pull the rain out of the bottom of the lake from fire hoses\u2026It was a really powerful, stinging rain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
