Charli XCX\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>told fans that she wasn\u2019t happy with angry chants directed at\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>both on social media and at her shows on Sunday, June 23. The \u201csympathy is a knife\u201d popstar, 31, took to her Instagram Story to tell her fans not to direct their ire at any fellow singers as she posted a screenshot of a video of her fans chanting \u201cTaylor is dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charli, whose real name is\u00a0Charlotte Emma Aitchison<\/strong>, was responding to a post on X (formerly Twitter), where someone pointed out that Brazilian fans were chanting \u201cTaylor is Dead\u201d in Portuguese at her concerts and events surrounding her. Charli had a short message telling fans not to do that. \u201cCan the people who do this please stop. online or at my shows,\u201d she wrote. \u201cit is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. i will not tolerate it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The drama surrounding Charli and Taylor, 34, began shortly after Charli released her excellent new album\u00a0brat\u00a0<\/em>earlier in June. Around\u00a0brat\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>release date, Taylor dropped a new edition of her latest album\u00a0The Tortured Poets Department\u00a0<\/em>in the U.K., leading to many fans making a dash to buy the record. Some fans criticized the \u201cAll Too Well\u201d singer, believing that she intentionally dropped the new edition to block Charli from getting the number one spot on the charts, according to\u00a0Newsweek<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Taylor and Charli have worked together before. The \u201cAnthems\u201d singer was one of the openers for\u00a0 Taylor\u2019s Reputation\u00a0<\/em>tour in 2018, and she even joined her on stage to perform the hit song \u201cShake It Off\u201d throughout the run.<\/p>\n

Despite at one point collaborating, some fans have speculated that Charli shaded Taylor on her brat<\/em> song \u201csympathy is a knife.\u201d In the song, Charli sings, \u201cDon\u2019t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend\u2019s show\/Fingers crossed behind my back\/I hope they break up quick.\u201d Fans have theorized that this is a reference to Taylor\u2019s brief romance with The 1975\u2019s\u00a0Matty Healy<\/strong>, as Charli is engaged to the band\u2019s drummer\u00a0George Daniel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
