The company claimed it would block the launch of Apple Intelligence, <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/macos-sequoia-will-let-you-see-your-iphone-mirrored-on-your-macs-screen-180215857.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:iPhone Mirroring on the Mac;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">iPhone Mirroring on the Mac<\/a> and SharePlay Screen Sharing in the EU this year, according to <em>Bloomberg<\/em>, which <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-06-21\/apple-won-t-roll-out-ai-tech-in-eu-market-over-regulatory-concerns\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:reported;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">reported<\/a> the news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security,\u201d the company said in a statement to <em>Bloomberg. <\/em>Apple didn\u2019t expand on how DMA regulations could force it to compromise user privacy and security.<\/p>\n<p>The DMA, which passed in 2022, tries to usher in fair competition by <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/tech-giant-gatekeepers-must-comply-with-all-of-the-eus-new-digital-market-rules-065324264.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:reining in what Big Tech companies can do;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">reining in what Big Tech companies can do<\/a> to stifle competition. It blocks them from pushing out smaller competitors, favoring their own services over those of rivals, locking customers\u2019 data into their platform and limiting transparency about their use of advertising data.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time Apple has pinned blame on regulations \u2014 without offering much in the way of specifics \u2014\u00a0for blocking EU users from having nice things. Earlier this year, the company said it would <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/apple-confirms-home-screen-web-apps-will-no-longer-work-on-european-ios-devices-112527560.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:remove the ability to add home screen web apps;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">remove the ability to add home screen web apps<\/a> in Europe due to DMA rules.
