Ryan Garcia<\/strong><\/a> claimed he\u2019s \u201cdone\u201d with boxing \u2014 at least for now. While taking to X on Thursday, June 20, the 25-year-old athlete announced he is stepping back from the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll still be training, but I\u2019m hurt and done with it and everyone,\u201d he wrote in one tweet. \u201cThe sad part is I\u2019m a great boxer And I entertain and knock people out. I\u2019m sad bc I [love] boxing. Praying for everyone and I hope everyone has a great life.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m officially retired<\/p>\n

Ryan followed up in a series of tweets that day. In one, he wrote, \u201cI\u2019m officially retired\u201d but added in a separate post, \u201cIt\u2019s okay I\u2019m retired I\u2019ll come back ina year [sic].\u201d In a subsequent tweet, Ryan wrote, \u201cI was already retired, so I\u2019ll just come back out of retirement for a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the boxer was arrested for alleged property damage at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, California. Per BBC Sport<\/a>, Beverly Hills police were called to the property after an \u201cintoxicated person\u201d was reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was determined that Mr Garcia was a registered guest of the hotel and had caused damage to a guest room and the hallway of the hotel,\u201d the outlet reported. \u201cHotel management requested the arrest of Mr Garcia for property damage. He was arrested and transported by the Beverly Hills Fire Department to a local hospital for medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n

The arrest came weeks after Ryan tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug before his fight against Devin Haney.<\/p>\n

Throughout his recent series of tweets, Ryan shared a statement from his team, which claimed that he \u201cwas a victim of substance contamination, with levels measured in the billions and trillions of a gram, which provided no advantage whatsoever in the ring.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRyan, with his legal team, has resolved this issue and firmly maintains his truth: he never intentionally took any banned substance,\u201d the statement read. \u201cIt\u2019s simply not in his nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, the statement pointed out that the athlete will \u201ccontinue to elevate the sport and will be actively involved in advocating for reform. We hope future changes in our system will address issues like this one.\u201d<\/p>\n
