The re-release arrives June 25 to PlayStation 4 and PS5; Xbox One and Series X; Windows PC (via Epic Games Store) and Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But, consistent with Ubisoft\u2019s corporate, butterfingered handling of a cult classic crowd-pleaser for the past 20 years, even that couldn\u2019t go off without a big screwup, or a statement to be walked back later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">First things first, here\u2019s the real, bona fide trailer, which of course leaked out ahead of time with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/beyond-good-evil-20th-anniversary-edition-officially-unveiled-in-since-deleted-ubisoft-tweet\">an inadvertent post to X<\/a> about 20 minutes before it was due:<\/p>\n<p><noscript><iframe title=\"Beyond Good &amp; Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition: Launch Trailer\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rERlRajITyc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That trailer went out about 20 minutes ahead of time, when someone inadvertently pushed \u201csend\u201d on a prepared tweet to the Ubisoft X account. It echoes an earlier incident in November, when someone accidentally hit \u201csend\u201d and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/ubisoft-accidentally-releases-beyond-good-and-evil-remaster-remembers-it-doesnt-do-that-sort-of-thing-attempts-to-scrub-all-trace-from-the-internet\/\">published a playable, in-development build of Beyond Good &amp; Evil\u2019s anniversary remaster<\/a> to the Ubisoft+ subscription service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The re-release had not been announced at the time, but the leak, and the scrambling failure to contain it, forced the publisher to announce that it was on the way \u2014 even if that meant months later than the literal 20th anniversary of Beyond Good &amp; Evil, which launched Nov. 11, 2003 for PlayStation 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Beyond Good &amp; Evil is widely praised for its eclectic gameplay systems, its engrossing characters and storylines, and its farsighted approach to video games storytelling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And yet it seems to be <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/timesplitters-rerelease-rumor-rating-playstation-classics\/\">one of those franchise unicorns<\/a> for which no amount of demonstrated fan enthusiasm can actually summon a proper sequel in 20 years, as publicly-traded publishers defer to <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/rainbow-6-siege-membership-boycott-premium-content\/\">more traditional blockbuster IPs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/readwrite.com\/assassins-creed-shadows-release-date-trailers-platforms-and-everything-we-know\/\">mining them 13 times over<\/a> for the attention of fickle investors who do not play them.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What\u2019s the latest on Beyond Good &amp; Evil 2?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">During Ubisoft\u2019s big revue at E3 2017, Beyond Good &amp; Evil fans got a dramatic announcement of a sequel, and Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1_jCaoJsjOk\">got rapturous applause for it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the seven years since, fans have heard zip. Instead, they have gotten a half-assed handling of a remaster of the original game \u2014 which, by the way, was already remastered for high-definition consoles during the Obama administration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Still, a new Beyond Good &amp; Evil, updated for modern hardware, beats the alternative, which is no BG&amp;E on any current platform.
