Matthew McConaughey<\/strong><\/a> briefly considered a new job outside of Hollywood. In a recent chat with Glen Powell<\/strong><\/a> for Interview Magazine<\/i><\/a>, the actor recalled a period in his career when he chose to step away from the cameras.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve usually zigged when I felt like Hollywood wanted me to zag,\u201d Matthew, 54, said in an interview published June 10. \u201cWhen I had my rom-com years, there was only so much bandwidth I could give to those, and those were some solid hits for me. But I wanted to try some other stuff. Of course I wasn\u2019t getting it, so I had to leave Hollywood for two years.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Matthew \u2014 who starred in box office hits including How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days<\/em>, Failure to Launch<\/em> and The Wedding Planner<\/em> \u2014 he found support in his wife Camila Alves<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had long talks with my wife about needing to find a new vocation,\u201d he recalled. \u201c\u2018I think I\u2019m going to teach high school classes. I think I\u2019m going to study to be a conductor. I think I\u2019m going to go be a wildlife guide.\u2019 I honestly thought, \u2018I stepped out of Hollywood. I got out of my lane.\u2019 The lane Hollywood said I should stay in, and Hollywood\u2019s like, \u2018Well, f**k you, dude. You should have stayed in your lane. Later.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

During that period of time, Matthew described the days as \u201clong\u201d and feeling a \u201csense of insignificance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was scary,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I made up my mind that that\u2019s what I needed to do, so I wasn\u2019t going to pull the parachute and quit the mission I was on. But it was scary because I didn\u2019t know if I was ever going to get out of the desert.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Matthew isn\u2019t done making movies and TV shows anytime soon. While he still calls Texas home with his wife and their three<\/a> kids Levi, 15, Vida, 14, and Livingston, 11, the actor recently appeared in Agent Elvis<\/i> and is expected to star in Oscar nominee Paul Greengrass<\/strong>\u2019 upcoming drama The Lost Bus<\/i><\/a> with America Ferrera<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also been able to step out of the Hollywood box by co-founding Pantalones Organic Tequila<\/a> and serving as an instructor at his alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime slowed down,\u201d the Just Because<\/i> children\u2019s book author told Southern Living<\/i><\/a> <\/i>in March when discussing life in Texas. \u201cPart of that is just the distance between places and the way people move. But it\u2019s also the hospitality, the courtesy, the common sense, the lack of drama.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
