Kevin Costner<\/a><\/strong> is shining a light on his exit from the hit series Yellowstone<\/i>. After playing patriarch John Dutton III for five seasons, the actor said he still has fond memories of working on the Paramount Network series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved the show,\u201d Kevin, 69, told PEOPLE<\/i><\/a> in an interview published Wednesday, June 19. \u201cI liked the people on the show. I liked what it was about. I love that world.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not to say it was absolutely perfect. When Kevin announced he was leaving the show in 2022<\/a>, rumors swirled about the real reason behind his exit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI read all the stories,\u201d the actor admitted. \u201cI was disappointed that nobody on their side \u2026 ever stepped up to defend what it was I actually did for them. There came a moment where I thought, \u2018Wow, when is somebody going to say something about what I have<\/i> done versus what I haven\u2019t<\/i> done?’\u201d<\/p>\n

In February, Kevin\u2019s attorney, Marty Singer<\/strong>, also responded to online rumors<\/a>, stating: \u201cAs everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Kevin, he originally agreed to participate in creator Taylor Sheridan<\/strong>\u2019s show for one season as it was pitched to him like a long movie. Ultimately, the Oscar winner believes the studio wanted a show that could span several seasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause he\u2019s such a prolific writer, [Taylor] said, \u2018I can do that. I can make a series that goes on,\u2019\u201d Kevin believed. \u201cI said, \u2018I\u2019ll do it for three seasons\u2019 and I ended up doing it for five.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that he was open to continuing, but no one could provide a timeline for the production. Fourteen months went by where the show had stopped. As a result, Kevin wanted to pursue other projects.<\/p>\n

Despite the past, Kevin said he would be open to returning to Yellowstone<\/i> if the script and scenario were right. \u201cIt might be an interesting moment to come back and finish the mythology of this modern-day family and if that happens, I would step into it if I agreed with how it was being done,\u201d he said. \u201cIn the very end, I couldn\u2019t do any more for it than I had already done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kevin\u2019s latest film, Horizon: An American Saga<\/i>, hits theaters everywhere on Friday, June 28.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
